  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yep, they do. Jesus also said if you fail to feed the hungry, care for the sick, visit the prisoners, etc, then you failed to love Him and would not enter Heaven.

The works really matter?
In my oppinion, yes, works matter...BUT NOT FOR SALVATION. Jesus said everybody will get paid to their works. I think works are only for one reason. AWARDS!!! If I want to live in new Jerusalem, If I want to be taken with our Lord in His second Coming and not suffering tribulation... I MUST BAKUP MY FAITH WITH WORKS. Note that I am not telling works, as a work, really matter. It´s been said that nobody will be justified by the making of the law works. Faith, dear friends, faith giving born works is what I think will make me PERFECT before the Lord, but as I said, not me, but Jesus Christ on my heart.

.....Good question... Am I ready for His second coming?... good question...

Although it has been stated already I will try and word it in a way that I think makes sense.

We are saved by grace through faith, but we are saved *unto* good works. In other words we are saved by the type of faith that produces good works in the believer. This is why James asked the rhetorical question in James 2:14:

"What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him?"

I like the NIV's translation better here where it says: "Can such faith save him?"

The obvious answer is no, that kind of faith cannot save him.
True faith produces good works in the life of the believer because they are an outward expression to an inward change.

God Bless

Paul tells us in Romans 4:25-5:2 He was delivered over to death for our sins and then was raised to life to put us right with God. By faith in this, then, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.

Romans 10:9-11 If you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with your heart you believe and are put right with God, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in Him will never be put to shame."

So we are saved by grace...through faith.....because we believe.

Linda

But what about all those scriptures that says other wise?

Chelcb,

I'm assuming you mean the scripture that refers to works. I believe works are important, we will be rewarded in heaven according to our works, but not judged. After we are saved....we view the world through HIS eyes and want to help people. There are many ways to do this; prayer, volunteer work, charities, helping the elderly, etc.

In heaven when we 'see' the big picture, I'm sure we will all feel that we could have done more on this earth to help the poor, needy, hopeless, etc.; but works alone will not 'get' us into heaven....that is only achieved through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

YSIC,

Linda

But where is that specifically in the bible, the part that says that works are a reward after we are no longer on this earth but in heaven?

Hi chelcb;

Revelation 11:18 The nations were angry, and Your wrath has come, And the time of the dead, that they should be judged, And that You should reward Your servants the prophets and the saints, And those who fear Your name, small and great, And should destroy those who destroy the earth.

2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

Romans 2:5 but after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up for thyself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; 6 who will render to every man according to his works

Revelation 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works

Okay, show me where in the bible it saves Once we are saved, were always saved?

You know chelcb, I have a problem with this one too.

I don't believe that once saved always saved. Lets say you go to church one Sunday and at the end of the sermon the Pastor has an altar call. You go forward and give your life to the Lord, walk out of the church....never read the Word, never pray and live your life as before. Then the seed was thrown on that person but never took root. IMHO that person is not saved.

Salvation is a gift that you must ask for and accept, but IMHO after being saved you thirst for the Word, you pray and want to draw closer to Jesus. You want to be more like HIM. You want to be around like minded people......opinions you had before gradually change (abortion, pre-martial sex, etc.). As your walk in the Lord grows, so do you.

So what does this have to do with eternal security?
You have just answered your own question.

Going forward at an alter call, praying a prayer, etc, does not necessarily mean you had a true salvation experience. A saved person is a new creation and the fruits of that new creation will manifest themselves if indeed there was a true repentance.

You cannot lose what you never had in the first place.

Eternal security teaches that once true salvation is attained it cannot be lost.
