I don't know if this is a silly question, but I'm in a very traditional marriage. My husband works, mows the lawn and takes the trash out. Those are his only jobs. I raised the baby myself and continue to take care of him by myself (he's 3), and I'm also in nursing school full time (will graduate in May). Additionally, we have a dog and a ferret, whom I take care of, and a house that I'm expected to keep impeccable. All of that's fine and I make it work, despite the stress!

My question is, how do you make time for God? I've been reading the Bible before bed for a while now and have been trying to make it a daily thing (ends up being almost daily!). I read before bed because everyone's asleep by then, so I have some time. But I'm usually so exhausted (and sometimes it's 4 or 5am by the time I get sleep, because I do all my homework and studying for exams after everyone's asleep), I usually only manage to read a chapter and a lot of it doesn't sink in.

My relationship with God isn't as close as I'd like because I'm so busy with everything. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas to help me grow closer to God even though I'm so busy.

Thank you! Hope I posted this in the right place.

I have two little ones, one is newly 5, the other is 3.5.

Mostly it's been fellowship with other people, listening to music and the occasional bible-cracking open.

This is a very fleeting (though it doesn't feel like it now) time in our children's lives. There will be a time when they will be ready to sit down longer and hear stories and read the Bible (or let you do that!) ... but depending entirely on your child's personality, that time might be another 2-3 years off.

I find time usually when I can peel away from them and do some self-care.

Are you able to do that?

Some ideas that may or may not work for you:

Memory verses posted about the house. They will remind you of God, you can meditate on His word as you do your work & they do actually sink in. Leave them up till they do! :)

Praise & worship music. It helps keep your focus on God. Psalms or ones scripture heavy are particularly good.

Sing your prayers/sing in the Spirit. It will renew your spirit & help calm a bub.

Practice the art of seeing God in the ordinary. It brings Him into your life as it is rather than you feeling you have to do something *special* in order to have time with God.

Many churches have their sermons on line or try youtube. These can be listened to while doing ordinary things like washing the dishes, sweeping/mopping a floor, tidying a room.

Most mums of littlies have the same problem. It is only for a season & all too soon over.

Get your husband to help out more!

Indeed

Also, use try brief conversation prayers as you experience things each day. "Thank you for that beautiful flower"; "Help x who is not well right now"; "Thank You for being there in my busyness".

I had the entire bible on cassette tapes (back in the dark ages before CDs). I now have the bible on CD. I loaded it onto my ipod too. It comes in so handy when I'm busy or tired, or stuck in traffic (I'm still a chauffering "stay at home mom"). I do take time in the morning for some quiet time to pray and journal, but sometimes my days can get so busy with the children, grandchildren, my husband, all that stuff that it is easier to listen to the Word than to sit down and read.
