  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I’m glad the church changed this teaching. I’m glad we realize that heaven is bigger than just us. And I’m glad the priest at my local church said that. We had a whole homily on how Protestants can get into heaven.

Remember: denominations don’t save you: only God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ saves you. Sometimes it’s good to remind myself that it really is that simple.

I think a lot of Catholics need that reminder. But was this a teaching that really changed? Was there a time when the Church thought salvation for Catholics only? Jesus Himself is the Way. I find it odd that people would actually believe that one brand of Church would save you even if all are proclaiming Christ.

I don’t know, that’s just what the priest said.

Outside the church there is no salvation is a dogma of the faith it can not change... ever

The fact that Gods saves whom he wishes does not negate that... if someone is not a catholic and is saved its not because of he isnt a Catholic its inspite of him not being catholic

Its best understood as outside the catholic church there is no *assurance of salvation

The catholic faith is the normal path of salvation the narrow road if you hold the catholic faith in its fullness and is a state of grace when you die you have the assurance of heaven... outside of that we can not say yes there is salvation because normally it would be thar there is none except for the mercy of christ which we can not pressume as that is a sin

Outside Christ, no salvation.

Thats a over simplification

There are lot of people who profess christ but they are false christs

Religion is not just a belief system its protends to be the revelation of God to mankind, the revelation of christ through his Church is entirely different to the revelations of the many different christs in protestantism its not just a case of believing in some arbitary name of jesus christ and attaching whatever suits...but believing in the actual revelation of jesus christ to mankind through his church...and in HIS name abd not their name... all other christs are false christs of which jesus said there would be many durring the end times

"Not everyone who says to me lord lord etc "

Who's inside and who's outside is for Christ to decide. The church is the broadest way no doubt, but there are other sheep's too.

9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

The other sheep jesus was talking about were those among the gentiles and not just the jews... he would gather them both jew and gentile into his sheep fold the catholic church.

This I'm sure is more about having the heart of a servant and about offering Christ the only thing I have, my heart than about the name of my communion.

This is not to say that orthodoxy doesn't matter, oh no. Its merely about recognising that it's the direction of our hearts that either win our salvation or loses it.

I believe it's a picture wider than that. I trust St Paul in this. We should be careful not to limit the grace and mercy of Christ.

If your following a false christ (which your not) and you give your heart to this false christ and serve a false christ what salvation is in that... its not about your "communion" its about which christ you follow the one revealed to us by his church or a false christ or even a false God from another religion

Of course that is why we must call everyone to where we know she is because outside of that the is no *assurance of salvation because we dont know where she isnt

Christ knows our sincerity. If we've been sincere in our desire to seek him, know him and serve him I'm sure he's merciful.

Our God is one that gave his life for us, don't diminish his love for a repentant soul crying out his name in the moment of distress.

Glory be his name, glory be to Christ forever!

Oh i dont diminish christ or his mercy but we should not be presumptious of recieving his mercy or pressume to know to whom he will or will not grant his mercy as that is actully a sin against the holy spirit and a very dangerous sin.

I really wish I could read, what I'm sure are excellent arguments by TradCats in defence of this beautiful precious gift that is the Mystical Body of Christ, but I'm so angry that I just can't, I really angry at someone on this thread because of this person's comment, and am tempted to say someone really nasty at said person.
