CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why people that do not have mental health issues even think they should be giving anyone advice is beyond me.
It is irresponsible.
The OP needs to get help. Getting help does not take one away from God. Getting help allows them to function normally and be a Child of God with a clear mind.
I wish people knew their place in giving advice for things they don't understand and know NOTHING about.
Why say anything or have you studied mental illness and have a degree?

This IMHO is a lack of humility, just throwing their advice out there and they know nothing about anything the OP has experienced.
Mankind always wants to hear themselves talking. They will be accountable to God if they cause this babe in Christ to stumble. God's Word says it is better that a noose be around their neck and that they be thrown into the sea, than to cause a babe in Christ to stumble.
People need to realize that mental health issues are serious and not something willy-nilly.

To the OP. Go get professional help. It is an issue with your body not functioning correctly and medication can help you with this and get you to a place where your body functions much better.

My experience with mental health issues is my personal business, but I assure you I definitely have experience in that matter. Why people assume I don't without asking me first and flapping off at the mouth is beyond me.
I tried to PM you with this matter to tell you why I have experience, but I am unable.

Because you have to take care of yourself and get yourself in a good place mentally.
Then you will be in a position to be with others.
Remember what they tell you on an airplane when there is a emergency, you can help no one unless you take care of yourself so you have the functionality to help others.

Your psychiatrist only has so much control. They cannot do what you do not agree to. Find out information and then discuss it and come to a treatment agreement with them.
You have as much control as they do. You can help guide your own treatment so study what is going on and know your options. Be careful but try different things under your doctor's care.

Have you told him that it is not working? They only know these things if you open up about everything. So go back in and talk about what can be changed. Eventually if you are honest they will find something that get's you to the best that you can be. It is somewhat experimental and each person is different, the way they react to medication and which medications work and how.

It is in your hands and not about offense, but about you being the best son/daughter for Christ. You can only be this when you are at your best.

As I'm sure you can tell, I have a big issue with people that do not have mental illnesses (diagnosed by a doctor) giving advice to one who has a mental illness. I have heard some really bad stuff and I know it is a hard, hard road

The internet has streamlined this journey for us. Typically I'll just type in a churches name and location in my browser and it will bring up links I can check out. I'd suggest churches that affirm the Nicene creed or at least has a SoF that's in line with the creed. Normally they will have a calendar showing service times, events and activities that are available. Its great when they upload sermons that you can listen to to get a feel for the pastor and the church's approach to scripture. Ultimately you'll have to visit a time or two to complete your investigation. I've found many good churches this way throughout my spiritual journey.

Hi, I face the same issues. It's hard to determine thoughts from us and those from God. James Dobson wrote a book on it, that addressed that, titled "Emotions, can you trust them."
Let me know how things go for you. I've been a believer for many years, and still face this issue. I actually think you are in a healthy place! I've seen other believers not question the source of their thoughts, particularly those with positions of leadership in the church. This led to spiritual abuse, as they expected other believers to accept "their" ideas without question.

And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. - Mark 16:17-18
The signs are to them that believe, as the scripture says...
For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. - 1 John 5:4
