Regrouping? No, this thread is a celebration of God's incredible Grace.
I am an exmo. My temple name was Naomi. I was on the rolls of that church for 10 years (exit letter dated 2/03 and acknowledgement 5/03 ) and by the grace of God have been redeemed.

OK, I've lost complete track of our ex-mormon posters. Can I get a shout from all whom God pulled from that organization?

Also, if you care so share how long you were mormon, and how long ago you came out?
Reporting for duty, sir!!!! lol (I had to say that)

Left Mormonism and became a Christian 3 years ago. Was a BIC lds person, baptized at age 8, patriarical blessing at age 13, went on to hold several different "callings" in the lds church, first calling was when I was made "Beehive" class president at the age of 12 just 2 weeks after I started to attend young womens. A pattern that continued during my years of incarsaration (lds membership).;)

Would you ex-Mormons mind telling me which denomination you are now. Please don't just say you're a Christian. I already know that, and while your denomination (if any) may not be news to the old-timers around here, I'd be interested. Thanks.
Katzpur, I don't belong to a denomination, I belong to Jesus. There have been several different Christian services that I have attended since leaving the lds church but I don't "belong" to any of them. Right now, my children and I attend Calvary Chapel for worship and Sermon and also mid-week, I attend a Anglican church for Eucherist. I have just let God put me where He wants me for now and those services are where He wants me.

Hi grace-

I've tried to explain to other LDS friends that typically denomination doesn't matter that much, but separating Jesus, and the relationship, from the church is still a stumbling block. When one realizes you can have ALL of what He has without the "church", it is a big "aha" moment.

What you are doing sounds like my ideal. Unfortunately, living in a small town in Virginia, limits congregational choices.

I can imagine that it would. Small towns alone don't offer much variety let alone one in Virginia. LOL

Do you guys live close enough to a bigger city where you could drive a longer ways to worship service? Or would that not matter because the choices would be the same in the larger city too?

I am equi-distance between Richmond, Va Beach, and Raleigh, NC.

Most everyone here is Southern Baptist. A lot of small country "family" type churches with a pastor having several on his charge. We attended one of the more conservative ones for a while. Don't know if I told you this or not, but a couple of the more fundamentalist families kept going around saying we were really still mormons and there as missionaries to lead everyone away. Freaking idiots! I got tired of it and right now we have the kids involved in the "big town" baptist church youth program. It is more social than bible, so we will see how it goes.

The closest Calvary Chapel is just over 1 hour away. Though not completely sold on the pre-trib issue (I don't think it really matters anyway), I enjoy Chuck Smith, the movement, and the praise/worship. Your mixing this with the Anglican structure sounds perfect to me. I am envious! :D

Grace, just a question. Were you actually happy then, and just project your negative feelings from now onto that period, or were you so unhappy about your beliefs at age 12? It just, to me, sounds like sour grapes, but I could be wrong.

Sometimes I was, sometimes I wasn't. I can tell you one thing. I never felt good enough when I was lds, but at the same time I thought I was somehow better than non-lds, just because I was lds and I was taught as an lds person that we were "more noble".

I kept trying harder and harder to do what is right according to the lds church, I wanted to be everything the lds church said I should be. I had callings, I attended church and enrichment, taught my children the lds gospel, shared the lds gospel with others, tried to follow the leaders of the church, just like I was taught. I went to "know your religion" classes, seminary, institute, gave talks in sacrament meeting whenever I was asked, never turned down a calling, read my BofM, prayed morning and night in the proper lds form of prayer, always blessed the food in the lds proper form of prayer, paid my tithes, attended church meetings, etc. I thought that for the most part, I was happy. However, now that I know what real happyiness in Jesus is like, I know that as an lds person, liviing the lds teachings, I was not happy. Maybe a false happyiness or a temporary one but definitly not a true, peaceful, content, joyful, everlasting, all incompassing happyiness like I have now because of Jesus.

I did have a lot of sour grapes in the lds church and I also had some not sour grapes but in the end all that matters is the truth of God and that can't be found in the LDS church teachings but it can be found in Christ and Christ is what I have now.

What do you mean by "When one realizes you can have ALL of what He has without the "church", it is a big "aha" moment."? Just trying to understand better.

In the LDS church you are taught that you cannot have ALL that Jesus offers without membership in the church. Things that you need (ordinances, teachings, priesthood) can only be gotten as a member. This is why it is so hard for most to separate Jesus from the church and just accept Him.

Yeah, someone should start a "non-denominational" mormon church.

There already is one. It is called the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. ;)
