  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You've got God's general revelation (all of creation -- even in its fallen state); God's special revelation (the Bible); and cause-and-effect testimony in the form of:

Every religion boasts similar things. All it really does is reinforce that religious beliefs are entirely cultural in nature. And yes, this includes yours.

If you die without Christ, you truly were a fool.

Meh. I believe in personal honesty. I can't force myself to believe something I don't believe.

(I'm also not a big fan of conversion via coercion and/or attacking someone's self-esteem for the same. It seems like the worst form of witnessing, although I suppose it's what a lot of marketing is based on. Scientology uses similar tactics.)

Ok, I thought you might be using the term "mutation" in this sense.

In biology mutations refer to changes in DNA (copying errors) that occur during cellular replication. If such a mutation occurs during the production of reproductive cells, those mutations become part of the offspring's genome. Every organism that reproduces will have offspring with mutations in them. For example, humans are estimated to have about 50 to 100 or so unique mutations compared to their parents.

However, you won't find mutations changing an organism into something completely different (e.g. a different species) in a single generation. If you take human evolution for example, we are thought to share a common ancestor with chimpanzees going back around 5 million or more years. That means it took several hundred thousand generations to go from a chimp-human ancestor to what we are now. There was no single generation steps; it was the accumulation of changes in hundreds of thousands of generations.

What we see in the fossil record are snapshots of organisms that were part of this lineage at different moments in time. In many cases those moments in time are separated by hundreds of thousands or even millions of years; long enough for changes to accumulate.

Transitional fossils are simple fossils that are part of that lineage; fossils that specifically show a change in morphological features in between taxa. And given we have fossils that show just that, by that definition transitional fossils do exist.

I'm saying that evolution has been characterized by mutations into something much more advanced than the parent or ancestor of that new form. Proponents of gradual evolution have strung together related "branches" of the earlier forms not the line itself because there are no transitional fossils for the mutations.

That's right -- and that's why you'll be without excuse if you die outside of Jesus Christ. You've got God's general revelation (all of creation -- even in its fallen state); God's special revelation (the Bible); and cause-and-effect testimony in the form of:

1. Christian edifices
2. Christian literature
3. Christian testimonials
4. Christian hoidays
5. Christian martyrs
6. Christian slogans and phrases on our coins and pledge
7. Two nations founded on God
8. Christian organizations
9. Christian activities
10. Christian knick-knacks

If you die without Christ, you truly were a fool.
There was the original gospel or religion OF Jesus for which he was rejected by religious people. Christianity became a religion ABOUT Jesus which drains many an ancient Pagan swamp! A sincere person who seeks God can find God quite outside of the Christian institution.

Primitive Christianity itself is unsalvageable, it has become the greatest inhibitor to people discovering the original gospel of Jesus.

When skeptics encounter pigheaded anti-scientist, anti-intellectuals, anti-facts believers, they are even more turned off and confident that their skepticism is well founded.

And what is this "Primitive Christianity" you speak of?

If it's Urantia, then how is it "unsalvageable"?

And if it isn't Urantia, then where Urantia differs from Primitive Christianity, Urantia is wrong.

Primitive Christianity is the new Gospel that developed after Jesus returned to heaven. It replaced the original gospel for which he was killed. Killing Jesus as a human sacrifice to appease the wrath of the erronious concept of the OT God, “Christ and him crucified” became the new gospel, Christianity.

Christianity isn’t the religion of Jesus, it’s a religion about Jesus.

Well, at least you're willing to teach that your number is incorrect. Why not also teach that the theory of evolution is far from 100% correct? Right now it is taught as correct in every public school in this country. Thats wrong.
First of all, it is a mischaracterization to suggest the value of Pi is “incorrect”. But more importantly, I am also confident that no competent science teacher would tell students that evolution is “100%” correct.

Well, your methods about the billions of years is all based on assumptions. I call that poppycock.
False, simply false.

We have a real “elephant in the room” problem about these debates - creationists feel free and are given a free pass, to lie and / or show wilful ignorance.

This has to stop, although I an sure it won’t.

Yes, we can debate things that are at least debatable. But to say that the billions year age if the universe, or the earth, is based on assumptions does great violence to basic standards of truth-telling.

At least not until Mr. Incompetent shows up.

Revelation 13:15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.

(Notice he's going to put an end to this "you can't compare evolution to an inanimate object" bologna?)

Indeed, and the dots line up in such a way as to scream out to be thus connected.
Yup:

Overwealmed and drowned out by impulsive Peter and Pagan Paul’s modified, easier, softer way.
Then they can stay overwealmed [sic] and drowned out, for all I care.

They didn't help us then, and they're not helping us now.

So they can take a hike -- and take that goofy book with them.

You treat everything that conflicts with your hopeless approach to uncomfortable facts the same way, “take a hike.” You aren’t reachable, but others might be.

Irrelevant to my point.

How can you possibly not see this?
