No, the people who originally falsified the flood assumed God existed and the flood had been global. They were scientists. They found they were wrong about the earth's geology being a result of the global flood and changed their minds about the flood but not about the existence of God as far as I know.
If you mean the early geologists who first falsified the flood I think many of them were. If you mean the Affiliation of Christian Geologists i think many of them are not strict literalists but I think these old earth creationists consider themsevles literalists.

Indeed. There was absolutely no evidence that Thalidomide would cause foetal deformations, or indeed that any drug given to a pregnant woman could affect the foetus. The benefits of the drug are real, it is a wonder drug.
