• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Oh, and b.t.w. there arguments for a Creator God (Cosmological) are not evidence in the sense of a scientific theory of Evolution, but merely a reasonable defense of the proposition that God exists therefore.

There is nothing reasonable about a God of the Gaps argument.

"We don't know where the energy in our Universe came from. Therefore, God."

That is the argument in a nutshell, and it isn't reasonable.

I Robot,
Hologram of Dr. Lanning: That, Detective, is the "right question."

That energy came from a source that is outside of our natural laws.
Our natural laws state that energy cannot be created or destroyed.
So this must have come from a non-natural source.

How so?

Your argument does not work for lightning. Lightning is energy, and it is created. According to you, this would mean that lightning has to come from outside of our natural laws, and it would have to come from a non-natural source. Of course, we know that it isn't true. Lightning is made of energy and it is created, but it is creatd by well understood natural processes.

Then clarify what you meant.

I read it to mean that the laws of nature make life impossible.

Life is not common. It is nearly impossible.
Possibly unique to this planet.

"Others believe that life is a rare accident-something happened here on Earth but is not likely to happen elsewhere (.000001%)."

My stand is that a .000001% chance of you surviving my logic
means that I stand in opposition to you.

Others take a more generous stand. They would not oppose
your opinions as much as I. :)

Do you know the difference between "nearly impossible" and "impossible"?

Life is not common

Neither are rainbows.

It is nearly impossible.

But clearly, it isn't.

Possibly unique to this planet.

What do you base this on? How do you know?
Have you visited the gazillion trillion of other planets out there?

"Others believe that life is a rare accident-something happened here on Earth but is not likely to happen elsewhere (.000001%)."

Why would I care what people "believe"?

My stand is that a .000001% chance of you surviving my logic
means that I stand in opposition to you.

My stand is that you pulled that 0.000001% from a hat.
My stand is that you are clearly making an appeal to ignorance and pretending that not knowing about extra-terrestial life is akin to there not being any extra-terrestial life.

The fact is that the origins of life are rather unkown.
The fact is that organic molecules are NOT rare.
The fact is that organic life is made from the most common elements in the universe.

The fact is that you are meaking a huge appeal to ignorance.

Others take a more generous stand. They would not oppose
your opinions as much as I. :)

I haven't expressed any opinions in this exchange with you.
I merely objected to certain things you said.

Your argument is the equivalent of pointing out that there is no natural ice in the Saharah, therefor the north pole is a giant supernatural freezer.

Some non-matter, non-energy source outside of physical space must have produced it outside of the reality system we live under.

How have you determined that this source must be non-matter and non-energy?

Also, generally when people describe something, they try to talk about the properties that it DOES have. Not the properties that it doesn't.

A non-matter, non-energy thing. What the hell is that?
Because to me, such a thing is very much indistinguishable from a thing that does not exist.

Which is what all religions boil down to......."philosophical meanderings of hominids" which is equal to nonsense. :amen:

Our sense of the divine has evolved along with us. We either pay careful attention to it -- and see what we can learn, or we dash our brains out ignoring centuries of age old wisdom. I grant you that not all of it is so, but there is much in the sacred texts that is worth taking along on this dark corridor -- this sandy beach upon which we may one day stand when all wars have finally ceased.

 Such as? As an old bloke, I have found great comfort in the Psalms of one warrior King. I've also found wisdom in the writings of the 'Teacher' (Ecc.) -- the Song of Solomon is a wonderful poem, that can breath fire into ones sexual energies. etc. :amen: and all God's people said?

Our sense of the divine has evolved along with us.

As have our stories about it.

The earliest peoples worshiped forces of nature -- the Sun and Moon come to mind. Then they personified these forces. Then they created Gods in their own image to rule over these forces. Then they decided that a single God could rule over them all.

Now, all they had to do was figure out how to appease it -- and whoever could come up with the most convincing story was assured a special place in the social hierarchy...

Depends on what you mean by a living epistle...

Sure, it's a metaphor for something very sublime -- probably can't see it on a forum -- unless on has a very powerful imagination. Kinda pointless, I think.

Can it be described, or is that pointless too?

Sorry, but your query is flawed.

Evolution opposes the existence of a creator or intelligent design.

Therefore, whether people believe evolution is fact or not, creationists are always asked to prove ID and a creator.

So, removing evolution from the formula changes nothing.

IF anything, the solid undeniable proof that evolution was a farce would only solidify the need for a creator and ID.

Evolution, as a system for all that exists, removes the need for a creator.

Nice try though. I'm sure there was lots of High fives and celebration with your query. Even got a "christian" poster to state "this is priceless". Shame on them.

As an aside, God is Love. This is the foundation of His being. Evolution theory or dis proven farce, has no explanation for the universal, global, undeniable fact that all mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, husbands, wives, aunts, uncles, grandparents, communities... anywhere in the world, experience love. An emotion so strong that it drives put our own life on the line to save another life, health or well being. This combined with common knowledge and uniformity of basic morals, right and wrong, empathy, sympathy and compassion, in my opinion, could never exist just from a single cell blob of "living" substance with no direction, no blueprint, no control over its existence or future.

Love is the most basic evidence of God.

Proof of this is that anyone that personifies evil, meanness, hurtful, selfishness, emotionless, lack of remorse, greediness, uncaring, maliciousness, ruthlessness would be considered a truly Godless person.

God did design you. You have the blueprint of love in your heart and soul. This is why anyone that has never heard the gospel will still be judged as they know in their heart right from wrong.

The issue is not evidence of God. The issue is the evidence of the false religion of evolution. ALL the "transitional" species that so called science uses are hoaxes. From the tooth of a pig, AKA nebraska man, modern bone fragments called piltdown man, to neanderthal man being created from broken pieces and plastic and resin was used by modern man to create this bent over ape man with absolutely NO proof that there ever was a transitional species, and Darwin himself said that if transitional species cannot be found then his theory is not valid.
BTW The proof of God's existence is all around us.
The idiocy which I describe like this "nothing became something, blew apart and came together", AKA the big bang is just too far out for me to believe any more. I have seen the power of God in my life and the lives of many people. I have seen angels, and have had many angel experiences which changed my mind from the big bang to the big bang being "in the beginning God said let there be light BANG THERE WAS LIGHT!" This was the creation of this world when He spoke those words, because God has existed forever, to try to insert some man made science into this principle you remove God and Christianity. I tried to reconcile evolution with creation but that only leads to new age teachings and a nervous breakdown because the two will never jive!

Every aspect of evolution is a farce. The "fossil record" has been created for those who have no clue about geology, because there are places where the "fossil record" are turn completely upside down and there are so called "ancient" fossils in modern strata, and every way one could imagine this planet after a global flood which took a very short time, which is evinced by the standing trees in the rock strata, which some real bozos claim that those trees had to have been standing there for millions of years as the sediment or dust piled up until the trees were completely buried. These trees took approximately a few minutes to be engulfed by tribudites and flows of mud from swift moving, and raging turbulence.
