That's another reason the story doesn't make any sense. It wasn't written for intelligent, contemporary minds, it was written for the child like mind of bronze age sheepherders. The audience for Genesis was the scattered Israelite community who were once again in bondage. It was a spectacular exaggeration of their history designed to hold the Israelites together.

I can tell my dog NO all I want, it isn't making the decision to do as I say because it is the right thing to do, it does so because instinct for pack leadership demands it. Humans do not have strong instincts like that.

A person can intuit incorrectly. A person can reason incorrectly as well. It drives me nuts when people reason badly. But bad intuition cannot be blamed on intuition as it is supposed to be, just as bad reasoning cannot be blamed on reasoning as it is supposed to be.

God has the power to make a book written as such that everyone will interpret it the same naturally, without violating free will. If not, there are extreme limits on god's power, more so than even Christians that do not propose an omnipotent god would typically tolerate.

What I meant was we don't have instincts we can't overcome. Dogs do. And yes, we are just generally the smartest animals, although chimps can beat us on certain memory tasks.

So some people get offended or don't like that. It doesn't make it any less true. Also, shouldn't you try to avoid the pride that could be hurt by that anyways?

Sadly, some of the people that need the deodorant don't use it. Yeah, we can be quite smelly, I internally gag at the thought of how badly people in the past must have reeked, given how rarely they bathed. Far in the past, obviously.

Actually we have the Holy Spirit whispering to our spirit what is right and what is wrong. That can come across pretty strong, or you can just shut Him out. Your choice.
