  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Oh, now the prefix makes it ok, nice dodge.
Yes, the prefix makes it okay; since there is what is known as psychoheresy, which is the intrusion of psychological teachings into the Church.

Could you please tell me HOW you can be saved without the Blood of Jesus?
Jamin, I didn't mean to make this a soteriological issue.

I'm just asking a question out of curiosity, since I understand that even Baptist churches are "updating" their hymnals and replacing "the Blood" with "the Cross."

That's the first thing my wife and I look for when we visit a church.

Is psychology the work of the devil too?
Absolutely.

Accepting money for "spiritual counseling" is known as Gehaizing, named after Gehazi in the Bible.

Not that I was asked, but I would call this an example of technoheresy, the introduction of Antibiblical teachings into the Church.
Private definitions of heresy are of no interest to me.

I have to ask you, sfs, because my desire to know supersedes my desire to exist: Do your hymnals have the Blood removed from them?

(I'm just wondering, so please don't get all emotional on me.)

We don't have hymnals (a sad development I deplore, by the way), having dropped them (along with singing harmony) in favor of projecting words onto screens. But our songs and hymns do still refer to both the death and the blood of Jesus, if that's what you're asking.

On the subject of hymns, I find it oddly amusing that the writer of one of my favorite hymns ("Praise to the Lord, the Almighty", originally "Lobe den Herren"), Joachim Neander, is also the eponym for that great bugaboo of creationists, the Neanderthals.

Okay, thank you for the info. I was just wondering.

Wow.

So you have closed yourself off completely from any scientific explanations of how the human mind works?

I don't believe psychology is science, per se.

Anyone watching the humans/week 8 video, about 2:45, slide with animals that don't get scurvy, lower left corner of your screen.

:)
D'awww, well spotted! I was listening to the talk while playing silly games, so I missed some of the visuals, among them that one. I did note that he wore a red shirt for the second talk ^_^

Well of course, another Christian with a view different from yours? Impossible, must be heresy!
It's quite instructive to listen to some of the Q&A from this perspective. The audience clearly includes evolution doubters, but somehow speaker and audience manage to treat each other with civility and respect.

You didn't answer the question. Psychology is a closed book to you?
I'd appreciate it if we could avoid having this thread diverted into arguing about AV1611VET's ideas. That voracious whirlpool sucks in most threads eventually, so there's no shortage of opportunity for that discussion.

It was just a little sidebar. But I promise I'll avoid stirring up the whirlpool any further.

I'm more polite in person. (Many people are.)

I want to see if I'm the only one that notices so, for now, let's just say one image on sfs's Power Point has zero copywrite issues.
A number of the photos were mine. (And I was pretty careful about copyright; Creative Commons is wonderful.)

You aren't exactly rude on here either ^_^
You should see the posts I delete before posting.

As I probably mentioned somewhere in the talks, we also gave a presentation to most of the church leadership and staff a couple of months ago (this is a large church), covering many of the same issues. They were very receptive, more so than the laypeople in the class.
