With regards to the concern for personal ownership,
there will always be the battle between flesh and spirit:
covetousness versus contentment.

It is noteworthy that before anyone sinned and fell
in the garden, Eve demonstrated covetousness.

Genesis 3:6 So when the woman saw that the tree
was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes,
and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of
its fruit and ate.
James 1:
13
Let no one say when he is tempted, I am tempted
by God; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does
He Himself tempt anyone.
14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away
by his own desires
and enticed.
15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin;
and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.

So how is it that some speak of "innocence" in the garden?
There was desire, ready to conceive.

1 John 2:
15
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone
loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh,
the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—
is not of the Father but is of the world.
17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it;
but he who does the will of God abides forever.

The Gospel concern remains covetousness towards what
others own, and the magnification of sin caused thereby.
In 1 Kings 21, King Ahab desired a vineyard owned by
Naboth, who refused to sell his family inheritance to the
king, so his wife, Queen Jezebel had Naboth murdered
!

17 Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite,
saying,
18 Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel,
who lives in Samaria. There he is, in the vineyard of Naboth,
where he has gone down to take possession of it.
19 You shall speak to him, saying, Thus says the Lord:
Have you murdered and also taken possession?

In spite of how often the scriptures speak of idols and
idolatry, the church does a poor job of making clear that
idolatry is born out of covetousness, and that self-
seeking and envy leads to all manner of sins. Genesis 4:7

James 3:16 For where envy and self-seeking exist,
confusion and every evil thing is there.

Colossians 3:5 Therefore put to death your members
which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion,
evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.

personal ownership - Adam blamed God
"... The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat." Gen 3

Also, "For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world." I John 2:16

"And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat." Gen 3:6
After she ate, she saw those 3 things. Also, that same info is in v2:9

Always a battle.

I think you have a terminology difference with most people's way of using the word perhaps.

"Innocence" is a word representing the classic Christian understanding -- Adam and Eve originally were created in harmony with God, walking with Him, and then sinned/broke faith ('broke faith' = distrusted God), and this is called the "fall" -- meaning they fell from a state of communion with God into a broken relationship where they were expelled from that perfect state of harmony, and needed reconciliation and forgiveness, the first step towards which requires repentance. Of course 'innocence' is the situation before that first sin. Romans has some on this in particular.

When presented the serpent's argument? Eve did not yet have a sin nature. The desire was not the same as one having a sin nature. It was a matter of fact choice for disobedience to a command of God that caused her downfall.....

It became a matter of... Who's word do you respect more?
God's word? Or, a serpent's word?

There was also another unique element of 'naivete' involved.
For, in the Garden there had been no prior conflicts seen to be learned from between 'good vs evil.' Eve was naïve.

Such a concept of doing evil was yet unknown to both Adam and the woman.

They had no concept of being punished for wrongdoing, for they never had been punished for wrongdoing.

So, they were in for a crash course in learning about consequences, which up until then, was a foreign concept to them.

In that sense? One might say they lived in 'innocence.'

grace and peace .......

NAGA is the word we need to understand. Genesis chapter 3, lest you touch. Eve said, the serpent beguiled me. Eve had sexual intercourse with satan. We're adults, we can handle this. Read Corinthians chapter 11, eve was beguiled by the serpent. The serpent is satan. Theirs no apple orchard. Eve and Adam covered themselves with fig leaves. The seed of satan is Cain. The seed of Adam is able. Two different fathers. Spermos in Greek means = sperm. Eve had twins. Cain and abel. Two different fathers.

Least you touch "it" , that's a far cry from inter course

Have you ever wondered why lamech was so adamant about his wives hearing his voice? If Cain is avenged hmm.

Gen 4
23Then Lamech said to his wives:
“Adah and Zillah, hear my voice;
wives of Lamech, listen to my speech. For I have slain a man for wounding me, a young man for striking me.

24If Cain is avenged sevenfold,
then Lamech seventy-sevenfold.”

How was Satan even able to have sex?

All sin/evil is based on some perceived good. Eve's desire for happiness was a God-given good. Her unhealthy pride, as well, was based on the abuse of a good, that of healthy self-love, She was created innocent and yet in a "state of journeying to perfection" as it's been taught that we all are. Our purpose is achieved-and happiness/integrity complete- to the extent that we find and choose the greatest good. IOW, the more that we draw near to God, or the more that we love Him with our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength, the more we attain our created goal, our telos, and the more happy, whole, holy, complete that we are. Adam and Eve took the road away from God, and placed all humanity on that road. By disobeying Him they denied His very godhood-and the "knowledge of God" was lost. They were now lost by becoming their own "gods".

But God knew that this was really only a detour on the way back to Him and the purpose He had created them for. Meanwhile they would experience-or know- both good and evil in this life of alienation from Him where man's will reigns and sin abounds. We're here to learn that "Apart from Me you can do nothing" (John 15:5). We're here to gain the wisdom that Adam & Even lacked, to learn the hard way of our need for God with His help, consisting of revelation and grace, fully given with the coming of Christ. We're here to learn that we're not Him and that He, alone, is perfect in wisdom and truth and goodness-that He is love and always had only our highest and best interest at heart and is worthy of our love and obedience. Presumably Adam & Eve have done so by now. Presumably Eve now knows where true happiness and fulfillment lie, only with God.

Very good! There is only one tree of life, Christ and only one tree of knowledge of good and evil, the Law, "thou shall not". One snake, the fleshly nature of man. Understanding this helps in understanding scripture. Not understanding it matters little, because it's all about faith in God/Christ anyway.

Yes-normal desires, appetites, etc, are God-given. So to desire that which appears good is not sin. But when desiring that thing means to compromise and deny the accomplishment of some greater good, then sin/moral evil results, caused by an abuse of the created being's free will (which is another God-given good). So, for example, gluttony is the abuse of the good and natural appetite for food, resulting in wastefulness and obesity with its associated, unnatural health problems. Food becomes our idol. So while God created everything good, He does not compel us to act in line with the good, and any "non-God", a created being IOW, has the potential to make unwise and imperfect choices-and any choice and action outside of the perfect will of God is necessarily sin/evil.

God's purpose in creation and salvation is to ultimately bring creation-us-into willing alignment with His will-as we learn of the foolishness of, and unhappiness that results from, doing otherwise. He does this with revelation and grace-all grace at the end of the day. We simply must respond to and cooperate with it-or not. By now I'd bet Eve has come to do so.

Since we are tempted by our own lusts, the serpent did not tempt Eve, he merely presented the opportunity.

We often see this whole affair as transactional. If that be the case, then Rabbi Bob (I'm not a rabbi, just making a legalistic declaration) says Eve did not sin, but was in transgression. Death did not enter into the world through her, but through Adam. She was deceived. On the cross Jesus said "forgive them, they know not what they do." The bride was deceived by the flesh.

It places a different focus on whats going on. God finished making Adam and poked him in the belly saying "You're done. Hi, I'm God." giving him the fist belly button. Adam looked around and seeing no one else thought. "Hi. I'm God too." To him God was a peer. If God could make the rules, so could he. 'Yada' in Adam 'knowing' good and evil, also means declaring. Adam had declared his own rules.

See the beginning of a shadow of Christ: Christ came to re realization that he was God incarnate. (Kenosis debates for another thread). Jesus was a law unto himself, being accused by religious leaders of violating the law.

Eve had not been taught well by Adam. She added the touching part herself. The bride of Christ.. mankind from the beginning was not taught well by the Word. If people could get saved by the Word before the cross, then the cross would not be necessary. It had to be kept hidden. This is why Adam could not eat of the Tree of Life, Prophets sealed prophesies, and Jesus taught so they would not understand, believe and get saved.

The serpent was more subtil than the other animals. This implies that the other animals were less subtil. At what? The only thing there was... tempting Eve. Apparently they were eating the fruit and not dying. Eve thinks, "Oh they are animals, and I am not. I am from man,"

Then the serpent unhinges his jaw and swallows a fruit whole. She watches the shape of the fruit travel down the body of the serpent. Surely it must choke or suffocate and die. I think he used words a s well. Look at me. I am created by God and do what I was created to do. If it looks good and smells good, I eat it. Don't you have the same instincts? Doesn't it look good and smell good?

Eve chose to be a god and declare her own good and evil by instinct.

See the shadow build... they hide in the singular tree... not the trees or among the bushes. When we hide in the cross, God does not see us, but Christ.

The word for subtil also means naked. The serpent was both naked and subtil. Adam didn't need anyone to tell him he had become naked, he had become like the serpent... cunning. "I did not eat from the tree. I ate from the woman you gave me. "

Jesus might have said, "I did not sin, but the woman you gave me... You said it was not good I should be alone. "

Eve would be reminded that she was not a god through the suffering of childbirth. Gods don't suffer. Adam, you want to be a God? Go feed yourself, you're eating my stuff. the suffering of the sweat of your brow will remind you that you are not a God.

The tree had been set aside as an object lesson of God's holiness. It's name.. could also be translated the tree of the opinion of good and evil. Later when it say Adam knows good and evil, that word can also me 'declares'.

We see now that the essence of original sin is that they usurped God's position by making their own rules. They made themselves equal to God. Christ though God did not consider equality something to be grasped.

In Notarikon the rosh ר is revelation. The tov ת is a revelation finished with a new life springing up.
Death it muth מות and muwr מור is and exchange. God said the day you eat of the tree you will experience the echange that brings life. Indeed the life of the animal was exchanged for his.

They were both tempted by their own desire. 'Innocence' simply means it had not yet grown into action. The innocent child thinks he is the center of the universe, that he is a god. But he is said to be innocent because where there is no law, there is no culpability for the law.

There really was no 'fall'. They were created separate from God. That is the primary attribute of Holiness; God is separate. His first declaration "Let there be light" declared that he was holy and separate from his creation. The word for skins is a pun to light. He gave them garments of something like his holiness. His holiness is innate, our is imputed.

In God's universe you reap what you sow, he gives you hat you want (to be a god) and lets you wallow in the consequences. Our choices cause pain suffering and death for us and those around us. It is the perfect insane asylum for those who think they are gods. We torment each other until we realize that gods don't suffer, and therefor we must not be gods. Suffering is the first schoolmaster to the flesh to lead us to God.

We have peace in the midst of the chaos we cause when we finally acknowledge that he alone is God. The law was given for the same reason. God's don't covet, lie, steal, etc.

God wasn't a good teacher?
Intentionally so. He prevented Adam from eating (learning) from the Tree of Life. Some prophets hid their prophecies, and Jesus spoke in riddles so that they would not understand, would not believe, and would not get saved. Why? The revelation of God was hidden in prophetic riddle. It's culmination is the cross. If people could get saved by teaching before the cross, the cross would not be necessary. But without the cross there is not a complete revelation that God is both Holy and Love.

Jesus was always tempted to not face the cross. In the flesh he did not want to die, even in Gethsemane saying, "Remove this cup...". He had to withhold sufficient teaching for salvation until after the cross.

Adam not sufficiently teaching Eve, is a prophecy of this. Jesus took responsibility on the cross when he said, "Forgive them. They know not what they do." Mankind, symbolized by Eve (the bride) had been deceived by the flesh and was insufficiently taught to reject the deceit. We by nature... by instinct, choose good and evil for ourselves, usurping God's position and making ourselves God.

The Hebrew word for 'born' ילד also means, by formation, the hand (work) יד of teaching ל. To be born again means that you are taught again by the Spirit.

Thanks for asking.

Yeah. Eating is the metaphor for learning. The two trees a re merged in revelation as one tree. The cross is both the tree of life and of knowledge.

Are you familiar with the three women at the well? Can you move a mountain to the sea?

I apologize for what may seem to be obtuse questions. Your questions have indicated to me that we live in different hermeneutical worlds and will be talking past one another.

If you presume the Word is literal-historical, as most do, then you fall under the great umbrella cast by the theologians of the last century who reluctantly confessed that they cannot read the scriptures the way Jesus and the NT authors did. (see the sensus penior debates). That is not intended as an insult, but as a definition of why they have the problem that they themselves have defined.

When Jesus read the scriptures he did not see Adam, Moses and Abraham; he saw himself. The differences in the gospels teach us how to read like Jesus, but the experts call it the "Synopic Problem".

If we don't have the same foundation for understanding scriptures, we will continue to talk past one another. The scripture is prophetic riddle hidden inside the literal-historical. This should be the topic of it's own discussion.

Thanks.

I gather this is your answer, so explain the three woman at the well and moving mountains have to do with the tree of life and knowledge tree becoming one.

Was the knowledge tree spit in half and the evil part dumped.

There's a whole lot you have to explain for me to consider your hypothesis.

Everything else was kind of rambling on about theologians.

Christ. and the Law are one. He came to fulfill the Law for everyone who will receive Him. The part that got dumped was the flesh of Christ, it died.
