  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Would anyone recommend this translation of the Bible? I was thinking of getting it but would like to know a little more about it first.

I highly, highly recommend it. It isn't the most accurate translation (such as NASB), but it is a very good balance of keeping the language readable and also keeping it accurate.

I find very little wrong with the ESV, and much right. I also recommend the NASB if you can stomach it, the NRSV if you don't mind older language, or the NKJV (if you don't mind a little carry-over from times past).

My regular study and devotions Bible is a Reina-Valera Spanish / New King James English bilingual edition. Although Spanish and English are quite close languages structurally, it always helps eliminate creating a personal "hobby horse" of specific language if I use two different languages; I don't get too caught up on specific wording in the English.

I also sometimes refer to my 新約聖書 (if you can't read Japanese font, that's the Shinyaku Seisho). This really helps me move away from too much dependence on the particular language and focus on the meaning. When I can, I refer to the Greek and Hebrew, but must use the work of others as I cannot read it for myself.
