I think the point needs to be made that real "emo" didn't begin with At The Drive In -esque bands, or (why can't I think of who my other "example" bands are?) _____, but the genre came out of (to the best of my knowledge) late eighties east coast punk scene. Maybe that puts things into perpective?

the funny thing is, no matter how many times you tell people the correct thing about "emo", they wills till say you are wrong.

I can tell them what they think is "emo" (like all the junky "emo" bands) is junk.
I can tell them what emo started as.
I can tell them what some good "emo" bands of the current age are.
Other than that...
I can tell them that I am right, and they are inherently wrong..
Because their musical tastes stink.

(somewhat kidding...)

ok, I've offically seen it all. I mean, when someone tries to defend & define what emo [music] is... that's just it. the end of world's coming people! Not really, I'm actually laughing a whole lot, even though it's pathically sad to me.

the best thing about emo music is when it's mixed with something else: screamo, emo-punk, emo rock, ....all that stuff is what makes it worth listening too. So why be picky about labeling emo music or it's history? I thought that kind of thing was for the hardcore, metal, and punk kids to do? Emo scenesters ....that doesn't seem right.

True emo:

Sunny Day Real Estate
Saves The Day
The Get Up Kids
Jawbreaker
Braid
Heatmiser
Rites Of Spring
Jets To Brazil

As far as I know, none of those bands are Christian though. If you want hardcore, post hardcore, emo style Christian check out As I Lay Dying, UnderOath, Blood Brothers, Norma Jean, Thrice, Atreyu, or Avenged Sevenfold. I believe all those bands can be marketed as Christian, but not all songs seem to fit that criterea.

See the only problem there, is the chick who original started this thread asked for Christian emo [or screamo] music so that she could get a lil more away from secular muisc [if I remember the post right], but that has been overridden by other debates of what's emo [*here's me laughing again*] Not to go againist YknJoker288 ...it just seems to be a greatly missed point for most ppl. personally I'd love to see some ppl post other Christian emo bands I haven't heard of yet or maybe have forgotten.
Anyhow, in the meantime I'm stickin with my list [with a small edit to it]:

Emo bands:
Lovedrug
Copeland
House of Heroes
Waking Ashland
Mae

Screamo:
Underoath
Dead Poetic
Flyleaf
Subseven
Blindside

Mae is rock.

Subseven is emo and Flyleaf isn't emo or screamo.

actually Mae is just sad...but I thought I'd put their name out there, cuz apparently ppl like them..? oh well. They're emo when they feel like it ...hahah.

is there another Subseven I don't know of? cuz the one I'm thinking of is not emo ...they're not that pretty, although they could be screamo they're splashy enough for it.

how is Flyleaf not screamo?

To answer you, I like how ParaChristo puts it:

The question is, How could Flyleaf be screamo?
Maybe its just because they are female-fronted, but they just don't have the right attitude. Maybe they are screamo. I just think of them as hard rock.

*pokes her head into the debate*

hmmm.... sorry to bring this debate back to the surface but i'm a strong advocator for Aussie Christian music. i rekon that we have the BEST Christian music around! :p (with a few exceptions from America, mainly Third Day, Audio Adrenaline and the OC Supertones... anyway, back to my point...)

i'm not sure how much of our amazing Aussie Christian music that you yanks get over there but...
if you're looking for emo then it might be worth checking out:
- Soulframe http://www.soulframe.com/ (i can't believe that i'm recommending these guys...bleh, they're good, but i'm really not an emo person!;) ) (sample MP3's at http://www.brisbanechristianchat.com/music/mp3/)
-Jael http://www.jael.com.au/ (these guys are kind of like evanessence... very cool!:D they're actually doing an American tour at the moment!!!) (sample MP3's on their website)

hmmm... there are others but i can't think of them at the moment...

And I'll pretend you didn't say that about Mae...that's harsh and mean, and makes me sad.
