There isn't and has never been a country on earth where the public vote on each and every item. You would forever be having referendums, like 10 times a day, every day. That is not practically possible.No. The US has a representative government. We elect people to represent us. That makes us a republic. In a democracy, everyone directly votes on every issue and every piece of legislation.
Democracies come in various flavours.
