  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

vegetarians/vegans don't affect you in any way; i don't understand why should you care if other people decide not to eat meat.

less people eating meat means more delicious beef pad lao and pad thai for me :)

I couldn't care less until they start getting uppity with me about it.

(My cousin is a strict vegan, and once tried to show me a PETA movie about how chickens are tortured. Little did she know that I worked on a ranch for a long long time, and hate the vile little feathered rats with a passion. Ugh, chickens are horrid beasts.

She got all teary-eyed, I got popcorn.)

Not to mention both of our eyes in front of our head. If we were only meant to be herbivores, they would be on opposite sides of our heads.

Removing something from your diet without a doctor telling you to can be very bad for your health. For example: a lack of meat can lead to an iron deficiency, and an iron deficiency can cause anemia.

Humans are omnivores.

However, I believe that there is a lack of respect and thanks for the animals that die to feed us and that our culture is wasteful in the way it uses the bodies of the animals we eat.

So you're claiming that because you have certain teeth, cows exist purely to be eaten?

Just because we evolved to eat meat, doesn't mean that animals are meant to be eaten.

No, I'm claiming that we're meant to eat animals.

Just like any other animals who eat other animals.

Nonono, that's not what I meant. I meant that cows don't exist for the sole purpose of being eaten, like someone said. Grapes do. It's how the plant ensures that its population will spread. It's why certain plants evolved to bear fruit. I wasn't arguing that humans are built for meat-eating.

I just saw a thread talking about vegans/vegetarians... and I didn't want to disrupt it... but I'll make my own:

Vegetarians are bad. Not people who don't eat meat for any particular "real" reason... but people who won't eat cows because they're alive and they don't want to kill life... I have news for you: One cow dies... he'll provide a meal for HUNDREDS of people. How many grapes have to die to fill you up? HMMMM? Not even adults... when you eat a grabe, you take still developing embryo while attached to a disembodied portion of an adult grape vine. While that small baby is still alive you brutally tear it off it's mother's body and place it in your mouth, applying pressure on it until it's little body erupts into juicy goodness in your mouth... you slowly repeat this process one by one slaying it's siblings.

Grapes are JUST as alive as cows. Cows are for eating. If you can kill a grape, you can kill a cow... at least people wait for the cow to be BORN AND COOKED.... they don't sell you cow uterus and let you rip out the embryo while it's still alive and pop it's juicy goodness in your mouth raw. No, that would be sick. So why do it with grapes?
This is rediculous.

I don't think vegans are evil. Hypocritical and ignorant, yes. Evil, no.

Vegans and vegetarians, for the most part, have pure intentions. But...they dont always go about it the smartest way. You CANNOT avoid using animal products. That organic vegetable salad you had yesterday? Grown with cow fertalizer from a beef yard.

Personally I think, we are predators. Not as much as some other animals, but we are predators and as such we better get used to the fact that we occasionally have to destroy annother form of life so we can eat. Its part of being a predator. We are designed to eat both meat AND green matter. I couldnt go very long without some meat, a nice juicy burger or a steak with Cattleman's sauce.....ohhhhh yes, heaven DOES exist :)

If you want to get technical about it... we never had natural predators, aside from the really hungry or ticked off lion or something. We were always at the top.

No we don't, eating meat is a choice

Eating plants is a choice. Eating at all is a choice (not a wise one, but a choice nonetheless). If we are designed to eat animals and plants, why shouldn't we? It is true that we mistreat and overhunt animals to the point of extinction, and that is pretty stupid of us. But I wonder what a vegan would have against me hunting a deer and eating it.

No we don't, eating meat is a choice
The most efficent way to attain the full range of vitamins and minerals you need to survive is to eat meat. Which likely points to the fact that meat is a pretty important piece of the diet.

If you want to get technical about it... we never had natural predators, aside from the really hungry or ticked off lion or something. We were always at the top.
When our ancestors still walked on thier feet and knuckles, we had PLENTY of predators. Plains lions and other big cats were our main predators. They found a fossilized early hominid skull with ENORMOUS teeth marks in the skull that they deterimined was made by something that attacked the man.
