I don't get what gives lately? Everytime i say something, people hear something completely different. It's very frustrating sometimes to try and talk to people. It's easier to just throw up my hands and leave them with their own imagination.

Tell me about it. You should take a look at a thread about sex before marriage I've been involved with over the last couple of days. Talk about speaking to a brick wall or two.

Well, you wrote it in response to my first comment about pork and shellfish. Plus, since you were talking about what Jesus didn't mean by kosher you are implying that he did intend for the laws about pork and shellfish to stick.

I'm getting out of this discussion, and I'm sorry if you are feeling attacked. But, I thought it was important that other Catholics don't get the impression that the church teaches that Jesus forbids the eating of pork and shellfish.

How can i imply that, when i 1st state that it is not a sin for gentiles to consume unclean foods? The confusion here, it appears, is that i know far more about this than your normal everyday christian that chills on chat boards.

The worst thing about it was that the thread was started by a confused new believer seeking direction who had received some wrong counsel and a few people were only happy to reassure him that the wrong counsel was in fact 'perfectly biblical'. Talk about stumbling blocks.

Heh, i just found somthing interesting on the subject of eating pork to be a sin.

It is not written anywhere in the Torah that it is a sin to eat pork and shellfish. It is only written that if consumed, you will be unclean for a time, which is usually the evening of the next day?

All of what is defined as sin, is specific and mentions the sin offering that can be made to God for the atonement for said sin. Interesting...

So i guess this thread is completely incorrect in that it's never been considered a sin, not even in the Torah. HA!

Jesus did say that it is not what goes into someone that defiles a person because it goes into the stomach and is expelled.

very true, and that verse can also be used in the context from when Jesus said to let your yes be a yes and your no be a no, that any more spoken than that comes from a devil. That would mean that for those who answer questions with a "shoot yea" or a "shoot no", should not use the other words, because they are rooted in evil.

shoot being replaced with a profane\curse word.

This is somthing that a person like me actually has to work on to eliminate old habits of speaking with much foul language. It's unblelivable at how corrupt a person can become from just using those words as if a regular part of their vocabulary.

It's been awhile since i've caught myself using foul language.

Sure it is. But in a much deeper sense it has to do with causing scandal when we know better.

This is how Jesus showed us how we could go among sinners and not succumb to the same sins.

Or evangelize the vegan and not scandalize them by eating what they would detest for another example.

I can go among drug addicts and not be a drug addict.

I can go among Kosher Jews and not eat meat.

But I can eat meat because the old law was fulfilled.

In the same way I can keep the Sabbath on Sunday or Tuesday for that matter without sinning.

In the same way am I not required to be circumcised for salvation or wear a beard to avoid being stoned. etc etc etc...

In the same way I may freely partake of anything in temperance and moderation that is an inherent good but would not, in prudence, subject another to the same thing that once bound them in their weakness if they have found their way free of it.

See my point? Its about alienation of or scandalizing others.

Remember, the Apostles had to go to the Gentiles and Pagans to bring the Gospel.

Well, if food was about keeping ritual purity, and ritual purity did not equal sin... then since we do not have to keep the ritual purity laws anymore, the ritual purity restrictions concerning food do not apply, either.

I am not Catholic, but I never eat much pork or shellfish because they are very unhealthy.
