  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Neither.

Get a DS lite. Best version of the DS out there by far, for hundreds of reasons. It plays Gameboy Advance games, it lets you use slot 2 flash carts, and it's region free. The DSi and newer versions have no slot 2, so that means no GBA games, no slot 2 flash cards, and newer games/applications may be region-locked.

Well, I have a DS Lite, and my parents want an idea for a "big" gift for me. I wasn't sure about it, but I like the idea of increased sound quality, although I'm not sure if the shabby sound in most DS games is the result of the DS Lite's hardware or the cartridge, because the symphonic theme song at the beginning of Dragon Quest IV is crystal clear, for example.

Another reason I'm interested in the DSi is because some games have features that are only accessible using the DSi. For instance, the Korg DS-10 Plus cartridge goes from four to twelve separate audio tracks, along with some other options, if you plug it into a DSi instead of a DS Lite. I know this is a marketing ploy, but I would really enjoy having expanded options for that "game," because I'm really interested in an affordable way to experiment with electronic music.

And let's be honest. I don't think I'm going to pull off playing games in Japanese any time soon, so I don't know that the region restriction is really going to affect me, unless someone can come up with some absolutely awesome foreign titles that I simply must play.

I really like handhelds, because I just don't get a lot of time to sit down in front of a console at home. Should I opt for a PSP instead?

I just read something interesting about the DSi's region limitation:

"Nintendo has reported that the DSi uses region locking for DSi-specific software, since the handheld provides Internet services tailored individually for each region, and uses rating-based parental controls which differ by country. However, elements such as Internet browsing, photo sharing, and Nintendo DS cartridge software are region-free."
Nintendo DSi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

So, if I'm interpreting this correctly, DSi-specific games are restricted by region for all regions, but DS cartridges are essentially still region-free across regions for the DSi. If this is true, I don't see how the DSi's region restriction is a problem that could be remedied simply by using a DS instead.

Does the DSi store offer anything worthwhile?
Well, considering that I have zero interest it in (and also the fact that I'm in Japan and would be accessing the Japanese store)... nope!

Really though, I have no idea and don't have access to any more information than you would.
