Inside Medicine scooped the story with a 60 page draft budget proposal.

Note that presidential budget requests are usually largely ignored by Congress; but with a spineless GOP majority, they may be more likely to do Trump's bidding. Also note this only covers discretionary spending.

Whether you think the US has a gun violence problem or a mental health problem -- programs that study or address both of them would be eliminated.

Additional coverage:
CNN
It also eliminates CDC’s global health center and programs focused on chronic disease prevention, and domestic HIV/AIDS prevention. While some of the agency’s work would be moved into new AHA centers, programs on gun violence, injury prevention, youth violence prevention, drowning, minority health and others would be eliminated entirely.

Citing leaked internal documents, the Post noted that the steep cuts will lower the National Institutes of Health’s budget by approximately 40% to $27 billion, down from $47 billion last year, while the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will be left with $5.2 billion, down from $9.2 billion—a 44% reduction. Rural programs would be hit especially hard by the cuts, while the Head Start program, which offers childcare services for low-income families, would be terminated altogether.

We'll find out if they ever pass a detailed budget.
It would certainly be a nice change from the past administration - The Biden Administration with it's dual majority never got one done.

ACLU sues to halt Trump administration attacks on Head Start child-care program

  • The lawsuit alleges that the Department of Health and Human Services has taken measures to dismantle Head Start without Congressional approval.
  • It also alleges that guidance to eliminate DEI efforts has been unclear and confusing.
The six organizations that joined the suit are: Parent Voices Oakland, Family Forward Oregon and Head Start associations in Washington, Illinois, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

The lawsuit alleges that the changes to Head Start have been made in “blatant contravention” of Congress’ approval of funding for the program. Congressional action requires the Department of Health and Human Services to maintain Head Start at its current funding and staffing levels and ensure current capacity as mandated by the Head Start Act, the suit said.

Most recently, a leaked draft of the budget proposal for the Department of Health and Human Services [OP] revealed the department’s proposal to totally defund Head Start by 2026. The budget proposal must be approved by Congress.

[During Trump 1.0, Trump] proposed cutting Head Start funding by $85 million in 2018 and by $29 billion over 10 years in 2019, but neither proposal succeeded. Instead, program funding increased during both budget years.

And the first Trump Administration couldn't even pass a budget with control of the House and Senate. Talk about a bunch of amateurs.

I can't tell which one's winning the argument!

I wanted college educated people who don't have to make the hard decision of what is more important, rent, food, bills, beer, cigarettes, or meds for the pit-bulls. Also didn't want any Trump loving revisionist blaming a shutdown on Pelosi a month before she was Speaker because not only do Trump cult members make really poor financial decisions, they have no memory other than what the party tells them.

Aryeh was the only one who showed up. Don't like him too much but he's brutally honest.
