The “Pledge of Allegiance” isn’t a founding document. It wasn’t written until 1892.

If one wants a free copy of the KJV, there are a million ways to get one. For example, the Gideons I have met do not mind if you take with you the copy provided in your motel room, if you need a bible. These hotel bibles are replaced periodically and get rebound with soft covers for distribution in jails and prisons (because some prisoners are sufficiently lacking in reverence so as to be willing to take the hardback cover and make weapons from it, which is sad).

There is also the American Bible Society which distributes free Bibles, which is a bit more high church (I have a beautiful New Testament that they issued to a soldier, which includes appropriate prayers), and then Marriott Hotels have Bibles and also the Book of Mormon. I know of an Indian owned hotel that has the Bhagavad Gita in some of their bedrooms.

Most hotels really like having Gideon Bibles, for a variety of reasons, and even among the casino hotels of Las Vegas and Nevada they are ubiquitous. Once, while staying at the Golden Nugget for a conference, I found the Gideon Bible had been horrifically vandalized with diabolical imagery; I took it to the front desk where the pious clerk was horrified and immediately sent up a new replacement. Basically, the maids stock the Bibles like they stock towels, pillowcases, and other items, and replace them if they are missing, and the Gideons consist of local businessmen whose dues and donations cover the cost of the Bibles, and who handle the logistics of keeping each hotel that wants them fully stocked.

This by the way is not a new thing. From the 1890s through the 1950s, each member of Congress was given a Jefferson Bible, which as a Christian bothers me to a large extent, because what the Jefferson Bible is, is it is a Gospel harmony consisting of the four canonical Gospels merged together into one, like Tatian’s Diatessaron, but making things much worse than the Diatessaron was that Thomas Jefferson was a deist who believed in the moral philosophy of Jesus Christ but not in His divinity, or miracles, and so he used a knife to trim away the sections of the story he did not like. Including the Jefferson Bible hacked away in this manner makes an awkward statement about what some people call the “US Civil Religion” and about the somewhat disproportionate influence Unitarians and related Deists and Humanists have historically exerted politically.

And unfortunately this did not end in the 1950s; in the late 1990s a Libertarian organization distributed these, and in 2013 the American Humanist Association sent a “Jefferson Bible” to every member of Congress and the President.

There is an even more unpleasant aspect to the story of the Jefferson Bible, that being its intended audience of Native Americans and the views that drove it being used in that direction.

So if Donald Trump Jr. wants to sell Bibles, more power to him! My only hope is that he would consider including the deuterocanonical books which are a part of the KJV but are missing from most print editions, for example, Wisdom, Tobit, Ecclesiasticus, the Maccabees, etc.

No. But my bet is the Walmart leather bound KJV bible is the same or better quality than the Trump Bible that costs 3 times as much. At least a quarter of the leather bound Bibles that came up in my brief search were large print. I can understand someone buying such a bible when their eyesight starts to wane.

Getting God's Word out is hardly a win for Screwtape and his buddies.

Screwtape hardly sees designer Bibles as a threat. It is rather difficult to find someone in America who does not already have access to a Bible, especially someone who is willing to spend $69.99 for one. It seems that they are even presenting seminars at the Tempters college on the various ways they can use this. From multiple ways of leading patients into the sin of Pride to making a Trump Bible into an icon or even an item to worship.

It is hard to get much coherent out of him as his fits of evil laughter tend to make him transform into rather interesting and scary creatures. But I got this out of him before the transformation was complete.

He rejoices when Christianity is mixed with anything, even something that is otherwise good. Mixing Christianity and nationalism thrills him to no end. When he thinks of Christianity mixed with Trumps version of nationalism the laughter starts and he is soon transformed.

Of course he rejoices in Trump having more money and people having a Bible that they value for something other than the words inside.

He did chortle about the faux American flag on the cover. The one with 20 stars. He is quite confident that some of the better field agents will convince their patients that what is inside is just as much in error as the cover.

If I was to spend that kind of money on a Bible, I'd get a Thompson Chain Reference Bible. But, since 2, of my 19(yes, nineteen) Bibles are Thompson's(both were gifts), I don't think I really need one.
