If one wants a free copy of the KJV, there are a million ways to get one. For example, the Gideons I have met do not mind if you take with you the copy provided in your motel room, if you need a bible. These hotel bibles are replaced periodically and get rebound with soft covers for distribution in jails and prisons (because some prisoners are sufficiently lacking in reverence so as to be willing to take the hardback cover and make weapons from it, which is sad).
There is also the American Bible Society which distributes free Bibles, which is a bit more high church (I have a beautiful New Testament that they issued to a soldier, which includes appropriate prayers), and then Marriott Hotels have Bibles and also the Book of Mormon. I know of an Indian owned hotel that has the Bhagavad Gita in some of their bedrooms.
Most hotels really like having Gideon Bibles, for a variety of reasons, and even among the casino hotels of Las Vegas and Nevada they are ubiquitous. Once, while staying at the Golden Nugget for a conference, I found the Gideon Bible had been horrifically vandalized with diabolical imagery; I took it to the front desk where the pious clerk was horrified and immediately sent up a new replacement. Basically, the maids stock the Bibles like they stock towels, pillowcases, and other items, and replace them if they are missing, and the Gideons consist of local businessmen whose dues and donations cover the cost of the Bibles, and who handle the logistics of keeping each hotel that wants them fully stocked.
