Consciousness is limited to only 5% of the brain.

Now that's a cute thought. Who says that? Last I heard they can't even find where our consciousness resides in the brain, so they can't know that it's only 5% of the brain.

But they figured that out many years ago. It's not consciousness making the universe expand it is time. Einstein said you can't separate time and space. Supposedly, they have tested this and found that the universe is expanding at the same rate that time flows...
So does that mean time is getting faster as well.

I don't know, I'm not a Physicist. But I have heard this, that time is speeding up so it could be true. If time is speeding up then the expansion of the universe is speeding up also. Why I do not know. But I do know that they said that you can't think about time or space without speaking of the same thing, so they call it space-time now.

That's how I'm understanding the title of this thread.
I think it dependes on what is classed as reality. If reality only consists of 5% of the universe then that is only a material reality such as matter. But the remainder whether its dark energy or matter or maybe consciousness and Mind its not made of matter in the classical sense.

Maybe the material reality is just a surface measure of something else that cannot be measured through empiracle science. The question is I think is where does consciousness fit into all this. The material view of reality is a 3rd person view. But I think to get a complete understanding of things we need to include the observer, the scientists as well and how they experience things.

I read an article one time that said the only true reality that we have is in our mind. That our thoughts may be the only substance that is real for us in the natural world.

Consciousness isn't a thing that resides and can be found. Consciousness is what the brain does.

I've heard that before as well and it's really kind of lazy philosophical thinking. There is plenty of external evidence that "reality" consists of things outside of our minds that we experience pretty much the same way. We will all fall from a cliff if we attempt to walk off of it. The cliff is real. Gravity is real. Our bodies are real and we understand how these completely non-mental and external forces act on us. It's not "all in our heads."

I think they define reality as of the normal world which we see and can measure and discern with our 5 senses. What reality means is that alone and it does not mean that this reality we see is the only true thing.

There is a larger reality above this world. This world is but a shadow of the larger reality. But this larger reality we can not perceive with our 5 senses.

Did someone say 5 senses? I think we actually may have at least twice that amount in total when you combine our 5 natural senses with our spiritual senses. Doesn't scripture say that God create dall things, both the visible and the invisible things? And doesn't scripture also say that we are to look towards the unseen? And that we should exercise our spiritual senses? It does.

So technically just like spacetime, we can't seperate one from the other even though spiritual senses and natural senses are developed differently. But who looks to the unseen?

Have you ever heard of the double slit experiment? There's a bunch of videos about it on youtube. The old first experiements and they have redone the experiment lately. they have had dramatic results. They said that they got different results depending on if there was a camera on or not!

Go watch the video about the experiement and then we can be on the same page and talk about their findings and what they mean to us.

Remember! Never say never, lol.
There's more to this world than meets the eye.

What are "spiritual senses"? How do we observe and quantify them?

Funnily enough, with the talk about "reality" being only in our heads and what we can perceive even though I've noted that a physical reality external to us can be observed, the only place this "spiritual realm" seems exist is in people's heads.

You are right though, it is not all in our head. Because Jesus told us to speak to the mountain. People speak to their plants to make them grow better. He spoke to fig tree and killed it.

They came up with an experiement that's done with boiled rice. You cook some rice and then divide it up into three equal portions in glass jars. Seperate all three jars from one another so they are all out of earshot from each other. Label two of them, one with good, one with bad. Then every day for a month or however long you want to do it, go to the bad one and speak mean to it, I don't like you! You're Ugly! I hate you, and stuff like that for a minute or two. Then go to the good one and speak good to it, I Love you! You are so wonderful, so tasty! You are beautiful! and so forth for a couple minutes. And the third unlabled jar of rice gets completely ignored for the entire experiement. Put it in a drawer in the basement or something.

Everyone gets the same results is my understanding. The good one still looks good enough to eat a month later. The bad one, is rotting and blackened and nasty. Usually the third and ignored jar is deteriorating but not as much as the bad jar.

So it's yes and no. Outside our minds and inside our minds (and Hearts?!). So you can actually test your own influence on so called reality and prove to yourself that, there's more here than meets the eye.

We have natural eyes to see, ears to hear, touch, taste and smell. These are natural senses and the 5 most common. SO we have to have spiritual eyes and ears and tase and all those too, right? Our natural senses let us navigate the natural world. So our spiritual senses helps us in the spiritual realm. But when the Lord was crucified the veil between the natural & spiritual was torn down.

Now, any veil we have is of our own making. Unbelief mostly. I've heard hundreds if not thousands of peoples testimonies where they were caught up so to speak and got the chance to visit heaven. Lots of those testimonies, and I've heard several of them remark, I don't know if I went in spirit or bodily. They could still see and hear and things were solid to then. A few have described getting out of their body and feeling better! and then an unpleasantness when they get back in their body.

Here I found the double slit experiement for you. Pay attenion towards the end where he explains how as soon as they put a camera on it then they got different results.

Me neither but I would imagine it would depend on where you are positioned. I watched some science show a while back and they mentioned that if a rocket travelled at the speed of light then those on the ship would experience time faster and those on earth it will be slower. So a trip to the next star may take around 4 years for those on the ship but it would be a much longer time for those on earth. So the further the distance the greater the time disparity.

So five years on a ship traveling at 99 percent the speed of light (2.5 years out and 2.5 years back) corresponds to roughly 36 years on Earth.

I've heard the same thing. Apparently they've known about this for a long time. Charlton Heston was talking about it in Planet of the Apes #1. This is all tied into the einstein theories I think.

So we have spiritual senses even we do not seem to perceive them or know what they are when they come?

As soon as I heard it, I knew in my heart is was true...
I don't know I just had a gut feeling about it...
My Spidey sense started tingling...
That has the ring of truth to it...
I had intuition where (whatever)...
Something made me not get on that plane, then it crashed...

All of things are different than our five senses, yet they feed us information too. They must be spiritual senses. So this suggests that deep down inside, every person on the earth has the knowledge of God within them so that there will be no excuse.

Romans 1: 18-20
18 But God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who suppress the truth by their wickedness.[i] 19 They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. 20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God..../NLT

Hebrews 5: 11-14
11 There is much more we would like to say about this, but it is difficult to explain, especially since you are spiritually dull and don’t seem to listen. 12 You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word.[c] You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food. 13 For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn’t know how to do what is right. 14 Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong.../NLT

Wow I love these newer translations of scripture! They are so specific and clear in today's language. I think essentially it is saying, grow up and be mature and learn to use your spiritual senses so that we may discern good from evil. (This passage is saying that all Atheists are liars!

I think it can be true to an extent though. I remember before I walk with God I heard the story but felt show me I can't see it. But now it is hard to step out on the front porch without seeing God's fingerprints everywhere! I can't make a tree! So now I can see and it is obvious.

All I did was set out to learn the truth. I prayed for wisdom & understanding and for Discernment more times than I can count. I read His word. (past tense). I read His word (present tense). How's that song go? ...Open the eyes of my heart Lord, open the eyes of my heart...

It's true that our Heart thinks independantly of the brain. For a long time we thought that the brain talks or sends signals to every part of the body, but now they have discovered that the heart talks to the brain also. The heart contains the same exact type of cells that the brain does and is responsible for thinking. (HeartMath.org).

The gut or stomach lso has these same exact cells! So gut feelings are real. I knew it in my heart, is real. Being aware of these things as a part of us and our makeup is our key to developing our skills with these spiritual senses. Doing this is called (I think!) looking to the unseen!

Light has a lot to do with it. We are said to be beings of light. Scripture says, let your light so shine before men...!!

And it makes sense that God set up our natural universe to operate under principles of time. So we're all slow learners Lol! But if we go the speed of light or very close something very spooky happens! Time is distorted for us as light beings. So the earth continus to age at an alarming rate while out in space the light beings are essentially not aging.

I like this one Pastor a lot, he's passed on now but he made some very good video messages. His name is Chuck Missler and I was only ever able to disagree with the man one time. He talked about how God doesn't have time in heaven so he looks at earth like a helicopter above a Parade. And in the helicopter they can see both ends of the Parade, from the staging area to the finish line. That sorta makes sense so I believed it for awhile. Then I had the realization one day that, there has to be time in heaven because otherwise there would be no Yesterday, Today, or Tomorrow. So the truth is something different altogether, we only really know that remains to be seen how we will live eternally and as immortals alongside time. The entire parameters of time are different in heaven, has to be.

Rotating universes cycling in and out which never does meet an end?
This is an interesting thread.

Along with David Mainse, John Ankerberg, Bob Larson, Ken Ham and of course, my pastor.

Umm, no. Not unless you can demonstrate what "spiritual senses" are.

I'm extremely skeptical. All of these testimonies and experiences occurred inside people's heads. Got anything from reality? Like, actual data?

Consciousness doesn't reside in one particular part of the brain. Though the seat of consciousness is in the cerebral cortex.

Yes it is true, the human conscious mind is only aware of 5% of all thoughts and actions that happen. 95% of your brain, you have no idea about what's going on in there.
The AI's 5% answer was about the make up of the physical world we live in when compared to the Universe as a whole. I think one way to look at it is that 95% of the Universe is in a very different reality than what we are living in.
