No, it is not philosophical. It is empirical. You can see the difference between a live and dead body. You can measure it in terms of a beating heart, or breathing, or brain waves.That's because it is a philosophical concept, not a scientific one. Something is generally considered living when it is self maintaining and dead when it is not longer able to repair itself.
