we hope. The severity of what she has won't be known until they follow up with how she responds to treatments. It may never come back, it may be constant, no firm answers on the matter yet.

I pray that she will be fine, and the majority of cases of what she has live normal life spans, with only complications. Others, unfortunatly, are not that lucky (about 10%) suffer far more.

1/10 is pretty good odds though.

Drunkenness or inebriation is the state of being intoxicated by consumption of alcoholic beverages to a degree that mental and physical faculties are noticeably impaired and/or skewed. Severe drunkenness may lead to acute alcohol intoxication. Common symptoms may include slurred speech, impaired balance, poor coordination, flushed face, reddened eyes, reduced inhibition and uncharacteristic behavior. Drunkenness can result in temporary experience of a wide range of emotions, ranging from anger, sadness, and depression to euphoria, lightheartedness, joviality, and sexual disinhibition. Consuming excessive amounts of alcohol may lead to a hangover the next day.

Hi there. I know there are lots of Christians out there who believe that it's wrong to get drunk, no matter who you're getting drunk with / where you're getting drunk / the regularity of it. And there also those who believe there's nothing wrong with getting drunk. I'm interested to hear if there are any people who sit in between, who believe that in some circumstances it is okay to get drunk while others not. [ Please no debate on whether it's acceptable to drink alcohol ]

Okay so here's a hypothetical situation:
Would it be acceptable for you and your wife (let's say she is also a Christian and is someone you trust with your life and more) to get drunk in your own home when there is no one around just for the heck of it? Would you see this as being different from getting drunk at a big party?

Thoughts anyone?
No, it wouldnt be acceptable.
Yes, I see it as being different from getting drunk at a big party.
A glass or two of wine is plenty good, why get yourself drunk?
And do you think that there is such thing as a demon of alcohol?
Spirit of alcoholism?
Just wondered, "alcoholism" runs in my family.

I drink but don't think that I really get drunk although I have wondered where the tipping point is. But on the rare occasions when I consume more than normal I generally start speaking of complex scientific and biological facts or theological problems if I'm around the right people. I don't think either of those things are sinful. Perhaps the real problem is making an idol out of alcohol. Idols can be made out of anything. My mother is a Baptist and think drinking alcohol is sinful but makes quite the idol out of food. I have my own idols to deal with but I think I can honestly say that alcohol is not one of them--I think the computer can be for me and books. I guess the difference is that if people make an idol out of alcohol and are completely irresponsible they can kill themselves or others at a much faster pace than they can kill themselves with food. Still the Bible speaks of alcohol both positively and negatively. It always within our sinful nature to abuse God's good gifts whatever they are. Alcohol in moderation does have health benefits and gladdens the heart of man.

I guess I agree with most everyone else. Drunkenness isn't a good thing. I don't drink much any more since I have a predisposition to alcoholism. Maybe a six pack of beer over a two week span. That said, I did accidentally get drunk last year and the results were not pretty. If someone offers you a glass of milky looking stuff called Ouzo after many weeks of fasting, just say no.

Personally, my list seems endless, and unlike the idols against which the O.T. prophets rail, mine DO walk. How else can anyone explain the fact that no matter how many times I repent and dump them at the foot of the cross, when I turn around they seem to be right back where I removed them from. :o

I suggest you seek professional medical advice if you think that getting drunk in your home will somehow strengthen the relationship between you two. It is most likely do the opposite - i.e. break down the relationship. Also it's pretty clear in the scriptures that drunkeness is not tolerated.

Maybe this is a cultural thing. Maybe I'm not understanding your definition of "drunk"...
I think it is sinful to get drunk by the definition I understand, regardless of circumstances. I do not in anyway consider it a sin at all to *drink*, as I cannot see that position being supported by Scripture.

My husband & I share a bottle of good wine a couple of times a week, which leads to nothing more than a relaxing evening, and improves our general health.

And while alcohol can certainly have the potential for addiction (as can anything), it's certainly not the case for the vast majority of people who drink.

This is generally my position (minus the whole wife thing as I'm not married).

Granted, it is forbidden for me to drink here in Iraq. It will be interesting to see if my attitude with respect to alcohol changes when I return to the US
