Since I have been on this forum It seems there are some Christians that give their dreams a lot of credit. Its a first for me. I dream every night and most if any have no real meaning to me. So seeing so much interest in them makes me wonder what I have been missing.
A little note you might be interest in that was on the news recently said that dreams are necessary to clean the brain and reduce the chances of Alzheimer's disease. It seems that dreaming is a way the brain disposes of trash that is cluttering the brain. So it definitely has a usefulness.
Tell me why a dream means so much to you if it does. Why you believe it is important to interpret your dreams?

There are some instances when the Holy Spirit is conveying something to me in that state. I always seek the interpretation. There are also reoccurring themes that appear when I’m getting off-track. Usually involving a train or someone from my past.

But for the most part, when the Lord desires to impress something on my spirit it happens when I’m awake and alert. :)

I’d say it is pretty certain that dreams can reveal your state of mind, not that they always do, and might need some interpretation to see if there is anything in there it might be useful to understand.

I agree with you. Most of the time, dreams are a load of nonsense and most of them are instantly forgotten. I remember having a dream that I was going over to Paris on the Eurostar and arrived in the hotel lobby to be given a set of keys and a handover from the Nurse so I could get the trolley and give the guests their medications.

I had one dream many years ago which has always stuck with me. It was a dream where I was with a crowd of people walking along a path with Jesus. The path meandered through fields and everyone wanted to be with him and were full of such joy. As the path went on, it became quieter and I realised that the path had led me to a hill with a tree at the top. It was at that point that I woke up.

Nah. My dreams are just weird and random so I don't think there's any need to take them seriously.

There are the dreams that are related to the beans we ate the night before, or thinking constantly on a specific topic for a long period of time. And There are also the dreams that are lead by spirit, which you can tell, has a meaning or answers a question you had or warns of an event that has not yet come. You have a different feeling with these types, are more likely to remember them for long periods of time, and seldom need others to interpret for you..... for they are given to you in ways only you would understand......and they maybe should not even be shared......

Can I suggest an interpretation... I have had a similar dream that impacted me greatly.

As you walk through life with other believers, they embrace the praise and worship and joy not realising that the path they are committed to, leads to Calvary, the cross and dying daily.

I honestly believe that Modern Christianity in the West has lost sight of this.

You know how one might see a flickering light in the distance and suddenly get the "feeling" come over them that the light is a signal? Beyond glimpsing into your subconscious, those are the kind of dreams you will want to look into. There should be some sort of pull there that draws you in.

That is very interesting Carl, and that's very similar to how I have felt about the dream. It was a time of my life when I had committed my life to Christ but was still quite young in the faith. I thought perhaps God may have been telling me that there is a joy to be found in following Jesus, but also the price Jesus paid that we may have that abundant life.

Yes and for me if a dream is from Him it will usually simultaneously come with a strong interpretation - if not I immediately pray for understanding.

My dream like yours was walking along with a throng of believers all heading in the same direction - there were angels overhead singing the most incredible music like nothing I have ever heard (I am a musician) Now on either side of the throng were folks saying "this is the way" and pointing, but I immediately knew that they in fact did not know the way. I also knew that they represented church leaders who has assumed positions as spiritual guides who couldn't see themselves. Then as I looked ahead in the far distance I could see that we were all walking in the same direction and as I looked more intently I could see that we all were walking to the cross.

There was another dream I had which I found very interesting, especially as I am not sure where I stand theologically with the subject of eschatology. I was in a large open space with a crowd of people who were running around, very frantic, as if the world was going to end. A train pulled up with empty carriages and some of us boarded the train but others did not. The train left the square, went through what seemed to be a tunnel and I could see light at the end of it. That was when I woke up.

I used to take my dreams as visions. But now I just ignore them. But for many years I thought they were from God.

As a rule, I don't, but I have had a couple dreams that I really believe were God trying to speak through my subconscious mind. In one case, it had to do with forgiving someone I didn't realize I was holding a grudge against. In another case, it was about seeing my mom (who had passed away) next to what I believe was the river of life flowing from God's throne. I also used to have a lot of nightmares about being stuck at work, for a long time after I became self employed. Although those dreams were meaningful, the meaning was not hard at all to figure out.

I have had dreams about the future and sometimes I do not realize that is a future I need to avoid. For example I had a dream about a parade and people watching the parade then the car broke down and a mechanic wanted all the money in my wallet. As it turned out when my son was traveling to a place because of a marching band he was interested in joining, the car got wrecked and it all ended up costing me $2000. If I had figured out what was going on then I would have told my son not to go and saved myself from having to pay that money. Although I suppose eventually someday he will pay me back. Or maybe the dream would have played itself out another way, I don't know.

I had a dream about my first wife before I met her. I thought it was a sign from God telling me to marry her. WRONG, it was a warning from God NOT to marry her. I really messed that one up. Sometimes the enemy will get involved somehow and throw a monkey wrench in the whole thing. It is very important to pray and have God show us what the dream means.

I have a lot of doubts about revelations or messages through dreams.

We live in an age of Hollywood blockbusters filled with CGI depicting things that will be impossible for centuries, maybe forever. Our minds have absorbed those images. We marinate in them day in and day out.

Therefore, I think it would be reasonable to assume that our imaginations are far more vivid and expansive than an ancient prophet's. I don't believe that dreams are a useful mechanism for imparting messages anymore.

I'm not saying it's impossible. I'm just saying I'm a bit skeptical about it.

Yes I had a dream that a woman was calling out for me, and then I found my wife and thought it was about her. I ended up getting a divorce too. Not fun so now I ignore my dreams.

Well then I guess I will share. I remember many recurring dreams from my childhood. Two dreams in my adult life stand out. My daughter was missing and one night as I slept in my bed Jesus appeared at my head and said not to worry that she was all right.
Another was Jesus over my head again doing what seemed like anointing my head. His hand was over my head doing something. I can still remember what he looked like and it wasn't the normal picture of him. He was stocky built with a mustache and a lot of hair. When I said stocky I mean he had a large head, full face and ruddy. The only way I know they are dreams is that they woke me up. He was dressed in a white gown from his chest up but it was flowing so I guess that is why I think it was a gown. I felt him touch my head. Now I have many many dreams of loved ones that have passed on. Generally almost all of them are, other than those that are triggered by the tv that is on or something I was thinking of before I fell asleep but I give them no mind mostly.
