  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

My oldest daughter was born in the Halifax Infirmary. We lived in Dartmouth at the time where I pastored the Baptist Church.

Love Nova Scotia, the place where one learns to take one day at a time, all the time.

Cheers,

Jim
My grandmother was from Dartmouth and a Baptist...

In Italy there is the story of "La Bafana" and old woman who goes around on January 6th (Little Christmas)and puts goodies in the childrens shoes...the naughty ones get coal...

That sure is interesting. It would be fun to research how far back some of these tales go..

That was over 40 years ago!;)

I remember when there was no McD's. The first time I ever saw one was when I visited L.A. in the late sixties. Seems like for a burger, fries, and a coke it was about 69 cents. Before that I lived in a state where we didn't get our first McDonald's until shortly after my L.A. visit.

And I do remember in the forties going to the movies and for about a quarter got my child's ticket, pop corn, coke, and candy.

When they changed the admission from 11 cents to 13 cents I almost didn't get in. The ticket taker, usher gave me the extra 2 cents.

Does anyone remember Drive-In places (not movies) where they delivered your food while the car hops were wearing roller skates? And they put the food on a tray on your rolled down window.
YES!
I remember the A & W! That was the coolest thing at the time...

My eldest son is 41 today and I remember going to McDs because I couldn't get out of the car...very hard delivery & severe postpartum following (some of the good old days I'd like to forget) We were very poor at the time so we bought formula for the baby and McDs was our main meal more than I'd like to remember!:)
They say adversity builds character...;)

I remeber burning up a tank and a half of gas in my 64 Impala convertable in one night. I wished I still had her. :) Yeah, gas was cheap then, I remeber regulat gas at 24 cents a gallon, Sunoco 107 octane was 28 cents. You could actually recognize a car at night in your rear view mirror by its headlights and the glare off the grille. They also has real pretty paint jobs then, it actually shined like a mirror.

When I first came to Canada in 1948, petrol was 18 cents an Imperial gallon. The server also washed the windscreen, checked the oil and the radiator, and some even checked the tyres.

Oh yes, and Texaco was known as Red Indian...they gave out Indian headdresses...when it became Texaco, they changed to Fire Chief and gave out cardboard fire chief hats.

Cheers,

Jim
