Do You Remember When?

I grew up Catholic and our youth group was called Jr. Newman because the college groups were called, Newman Clubs after John Henry Newman who had been a Cardinal so high school groups were called Jr. Newman.

Later this group was called CYO or Catholic Youth Organization. Both groups included both boys and girls. Not sure what they call them now.

Used to go to CYO dances when I was a teenager...rowdy little affairs

Some of us guys would sneak into the KOC hall and drink their beer and then go back to the dance.....Ah those were the days

I remember sock hops.... that was such fun. What a shame that had to go by the wayside.

When in my teens the local swimming pool had a dance every Friday night. They called it the swim dance, original huh? Anyway it was real nice because the restaurant stayed open and you could get fries and hamburgers and dance til midnight and even swim a little if you wanted to. Great fun... no socks in the pool though

I liked sock hops too and remember when we actually wore socks and no shoes on the dance floor. My first dance was a sock hop. I wore a blue angora sweater and a red corduroy skirt with fluffy angora socks. Ah, memories.

We loved to go to a place called the "Stop and Go" where they had the best curly fries and cherry cokes and Sundaes with hard, not soft, ice cream.

We had teen towns and my 56 Chev which we drove round and round from Steak 'n Shake, CHuck a Burger and Palace of Poison. I'd drag race at Hall street till the cops chashed us off. Shades of American Graffiti.

I played keyboard with Rythm Inc and played all the frat parties and private bashes in South St.Louis. Went to college with the Bob Cuban Band at St.Louis Institute of Music. Their big hit was "Make Way for the Cheater".

They had a couple of sock hops at my junior high, and we decorated our socks with sequins and ribbons and stuff, but by the time I was in my first year of high school, the Beatles had taken over. My sister was 4 years older than me, so she taught me a couple of the cool dances like the "Stroll". When the song "Wipeout" came out a couple of years later, you couldn't dance to it, so we all just would stand there and shake everything. Wow, if I tried to do that now, I wouldn't be able to get it all to stop quivering! Not to mention, putting my back out. I know, because I just tried to do it! It's a good thing I live alone, I wouldn't want anyone to see that display. My dog did kind of look at me funny, though.

I guess that's what they mean when they say "Shake it up baby" or I'm all shoke up".

Maybe the song now should be "They call it mellow jello". I know the feeling.

yes, when they found out they could break the sound barrier in jet planes, they were like a bunch of little kids with their sonic booms. The first couple were kind of neat, but after that it became annoying.

I think you might be getting the names, Chubby Checkers and Chevy Chase mixed up. You know that sort of thing happens more as we get older.
