• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
 • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I think you might be getting the names, Chubby Checkers and Chevy Chase mixed up. You know that sort of thing happens more as we get older. ^_^

Sure did. I will begin to get concerned when I go to introduce my best friend and can't recall her name. :D :D ;) ROFL.

This is not my 56 Chevy I had in my teens but is my 58 I have now. Just had her out about 3 days ago for a spin.

Wow, My husband loves Classic Cars. We go to the Car Shows whenever they are close by. They have a real good one in Moultrie, Ga at the Expo.....More cars than you can cover in one day. I guess I'm partial because I was born and raised there!

What do you remember when?
Hm, I wonder what one can find ;) in this, here thread...

I remember when we rented our first apartment for $55. a month. And it had two bedrooms too.
What year ;) was that?

Rented a 2-room cottage, for $60 monthly in 1970.

Mom using a ringer wash machine, and drying all cloths on a cloths line out side.
My *Sunshine-dryer* ^_^ didn't get replaced until 1970, either.

Collecting tin cans, rationing sugar, and no nylons available during W.W.II.
Born/raised in (a once communist ) country, our Basic-staples were severely "rationed" LONG after WWII; like beyond the 60's :(. In fact, who knows how long that continued, after Ronald Reagan insisted on June 12, 1987 "Mr. Gorbachev, Tear-Down ^_^ this WALL !, and OPEN  this gate!!" :)

Mom bought me a used bicycle (my first) for $5.00 and painted it herself with house paint. I loved it!
Yeah, I did the identical ;) thing for my own daughter :), in 1991.

I could go on and on...but it's your turn...and you don't have to go back so far as I did...just what YOU remember when.
Well, lesseee what else of positive Helpfulness..., we can herein find... :)

My first car was a a 1940 Ford Deluxe, with a flathead 8 (dual points) and suicide doors. I had to buy new tires 'cause I drove thru a harvested wheat field and the stubble caused three flat tires. Four tires, 7.50x16s, mounted and balanced and installed cost $25.00. 'course that was a week's wages.

Cheapest I ever bought gas was 14 cents. Down the street, it was 13 cents. Gas war.

I went to a one-room country school in the first grade--eight grades in one room.

Outhouse out back.

We little ones had to stay on the good side of the"big" kids, or they wouldn't pump the well so we could get a drink at recess.

This HUGE yellow bus came and took us to the city school the next year. White milk in the machine was 2 cents, chocolate milk was 3 cents. Boy, I envied those kids who had the money to buy milk at recess. One kid had a whole nickel. WOW!

Hi Bonnie:)

Yup "another, older than Dirt " ~ and you know what this means, right? ;) ~
yup, we is *sparkling... DIAMONDS* :D

oh, and re
"25. Real Ice Boxes".
When I came to the USA, I got awfully :( worried. :help:

The biggest ice-box I'd seen (by 1965) was 2x3 ft; and twice weekly I had to haul the block of ice to cool it.

My mom's bottom-freezer & top-fridge was 2x4x6 ft. tall. And I did not look forward to having to haul that ice-block twice daily :help: ~ Imagine my relief being reassured to the contrary.

Cheers! :)

Gosh, I got 22!

I also remember

wind up gramophones
78rmp records (still have a few!)
Corona bottles with a porcelain top fastened with a funny spring clip kind of thing
Outside toilets
No-bath houses - used a tin bath in front of the fire!

I could go on but I suspect I've listed all these somewhere on here before.

How about good old Sat. Evening Post!! Norman Rockwell paintings. When my daughter moved into her house the upstairs bathroom's wall paper was of this magazine. The people that lived there lived through that era and I liked it but not daughter so it came down. She didn't even know what it was all about, this generation!!! What do they know?

I have a full sized art book of his illustrations here somewhere in the cabin. I open it up ever so once in a while and chuckle. Somewhat before my time but some of the occasions are nostalgic.
