  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

He must have just been a US phenomena around the 40's-50's. About the same time as the" "Three little fishies song". Not his song

THREE LITTLE FISHES
Sung by Kay Kyser (#1 in 1939)
Words and music by Saxie Dowell

Down in the meadow
In an iddy biddy pool
Swam three little fishes
And a momma fishy too!
Swim, said the Momma,
Swim as fast as you can!
And they swam and they swam
Right over that dam

Boop Boop Diddim Daddum Waddum Choo!
Boop Boop Diddim Daddum Waddum Choo!
Boop Boop Diddim Daddum Waddum Choo!
And they swam and they swam right over the dam!

Stop, said the Momma fishy
Or you will get lost
But the three little fishes
Didn't want to be bossed
So the three little fishes
Went out on a spree
And they swam and they swam
Right out to the sea

Boop Boop Diddim Daddum Waddum Choo!
Boop Boop Diddim Daddum Waddum Choo!
Boop Boop Diddim Daddum Waddum Choo!
And they swam and they swam right over the dam!

Whee! yelled the fishes
Oh here's alot of fun
To swim in the sea
Till the day is done
So they swam and they swam
And it was all a lark
Till all of a sudden
They met a shark

Boop Boop Diddim Daddum Waddum Choo!
Boop Boop Diddim Daddum Waddum Choo!
Boop Boop Diddim Daddum Waddum Choo!
And they swam and they swam right over the dam!

Help cried the fishes
Oh look at the whale!
Quick as they could
They turned on their tails
Back to the pool
In the meadow they swam
And they swam and they swam
Back over the dam

Boop Boop Diddim Daddum Waddum Choo!
Boop Boop Diddim Daddum Waddum Choo!
Boop Boop Diddim Daddum Waddum Choo!
And they swam and they swam right over the dam!

Remember, Andy Williams singing Hawaiian Wedding Song?

This is the moment I’ve waited for
I can hear my heart singing
Soon bells will be ringing

This is the moment of sweet aloha
I will love you longer than forever
Promise me that you will leave me never

Here and now, dear
All my love I vow, dear
Promise me that you will leave me never
I will love you longer than forever

Now that we are one
Clouds won’t hide the sun
Blue skies of hawaii smile
On this, our wedding day

(I do) I do
(love you) love you
With all my heart

Oh yes, I remember that song!!

I also remember when I was going to go to bed (early) and decided to just check one more time for the latest on CF - that was - er - 3 hours ago and it's now 0315 hrs. Really time for bed, I think. Or perhaps I'll just check out the thread in ..........

I don't think I have ever heard of Spike Jones. Have I missed something?

Just watch the TV, brother. The new Schweppes advert has Spike Jones with "Cocktails For Two" as it's soundtrack!! The ad's boring rubbish but the track is still terrific!!

I also have a couple of albums (vinyl) of a double act called Flanders and Swann. Anyone remember them - or even heard of them? Flanders was in a wheelchair and Swann played the piano. Their songs and monologues were excruciatingly funny but typically restrained and 'upper class' wit - typically British of the 50s and 60s. The two albums I have are called "At The Drop Of A Hat" and "At The Drop Of Another Hat".

I especially like the one about the airport called "By Air" and you all must remember this one called "The Gas Man Cometh"

Twas on a Monday morning the gasman came to call
The gas tap wouldn't turn, I wasn't getting gas at all.
He tore out all the skirting boards to try and find the main
And I had to call a carpenter to put them back again!

(Oh it all makes work for the working man to do!)

Twas on a Tuesday morning the carpenter came round
He hammered and he chiselled and said 'Look what I have found.
Your joists are full of dry rot but I'll put them all to rights.'
Then he nailed right through a cable and out went all the lights!

(Oh it all makes work for the working man to do!)

Twas on the Wednesday morning the electrician came.
He called me 'Mr Sanderson' which isn't quite the name.
He couldn't reach the fuse box without standing on the bin
And his foot went through a window so I called the glazier in!

(Oh it all makes work for the working man to do!)

Twas on a Thursday morning the glazier came along
With his blowtorch and his putty and his merry glazier song!
He put another pane in, it took no time at all.
But I had to get a painter in to come and paint the wall!

(Oh it all makes work for the working man to do!)

Twas on a Friday morning the painter made a start,
With undercoat and overcoat he painted every part.
Every nook and every cranny but I found when he was gone
He'd painted over the gas tap and I couldn't turn it on!

On Saturday and Sunday, they do no work at all...
So twas on a Monday morning, the gasman came to call!

Was going to post Vince Edwards but see someone else did already. It's funny but somethings I can remember right away and other things which I thought I would never forget I can't remember...Last night I was trying to remember this lady we knew who lived years ago and couldn't for the life of me...could picture her and even remember some things she said to me...but the name...then finally a day later it came to me.

Something which helped after I struggled with it a while was to go through the alphabet. This time I stopped at "B" because the lady's name was Bea...and I remembered her last name then too. That one was easy...but some old time or even new time movie and television stars I usually look up on the internet if I can't think of their names. If I remember something they starred in that helps me google it and get the name. :D

Oh, sure do, becauser. I also remember the first TVs. One of our neighbours had one and invited everyone round to watch the coronation of our present Queen. We all gathered round this big wooden box and watched this black and white picture on what was about a 12" screen, all fuzzy and blurred!! It was sooo exciting to think we were seeaing it live!

Rin tin tin, circus boy, Roy Rogers {happy trails…. to you, until… we meet again…)

And TV programs did not run all day or night. You had to wait for it to come on. My grand mother got one first. Never wanted to go to grand maws so bad. I remember our neighbours getting the first “Living Color TV”. WOW!

My Grand maw told me about the first car her father bought. A new Model-T that cost $500.00.
And how all her brothers took turns, learning how to drive it around the yard. They lived out in the country.

And the first time she saw a light bulb. She said she just steered at it, wondering how it worked. She said it was great to see at night as if it was daylight.

I remember that. I sat and watched that for hours in the US. Don't know if I was home sick or it was a weekend. I remeber it was live to and we were amazed. Your right, quality wasn't very good. I think back then that the program came over trans-atlantic cable to the US. She looked so young then.

The first time I saw T.V. at all was in the early 50's (can't remember exact year) and not at our house, but while visiting friends in the Seattle area. An old mystery movie about Boston Blackie or some other detective was on. It was B/W and much static and snow, but we thought it was grand. :D

Speakling of old cars. My mom was really ahead of her time. She wanted her own car so as to be able to drive it to work (she worked for the war aid during W.W.II)...but, Dad drove our car and one car in those days was a luxury when most people took buses or even taxi cabs.

So...she collected change out of my Dad's pants pockets every night when he hung up his pants and didn't take out the change. He didn't even notice and after a year or so she bought a nice car for $300 much to his surprise and hearty approval.
