  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

When I was ten I invited all my friends over for my birthday party! The very best gift I ever received was the one my mother bought at the hardware store! It was a very long(or so it seemed) rope that we doubled and did double jump rope! What bliss! I could have jumped all night! Can you remember any of the old rhymes we used for such? Right now I'm blank except for the phrase, "dancer, dancer, do the split!" There were so many different ones and that party stands out as a special day of memories! I probably jumped in my sleep that night!!

 going back, back, back...trying to remember...I vaguely recall this:

"Georgie Porgie, pudding and pie
kissed the girls and made them cry...

sorry, folks, that's all I can remember. The part about jump roping I liked the best though was when two chums held a long rope one on each end. Then we would take turns running in to jump it. ^_^

I remember when I would collect soda bottles for money to buy candy. Soda bottles were 2cents/ bottle and $.25 was a whole lotta penny candy.

I remember when my dress, my underclothing, and my sheets and pillow cases matched (all from feed sacks) LOL!

I remember when you got glasses and silverware out of laundry detergent boxes.

I remember the wringer washer and hanging clothes out on the line. (thank God for the dryers now....I've always hated hanging clothes on the line...tooo many bugs!!)

I remember when the gas tank could be filled for $5....Now you can't even get two gallons for $5!

Oh yes, I remember all of the above!
I returned soda water bottles for money to bowl on my league! We had the Monday Morning Blues League.
I had a girl that came weekly to clean my house(generous hubby as I had many little kiddos) and when she came in the door I went out! LOL I so enjoyed the bowling as I'd never done such before and my aunt and 2 neighbors were also on my same team! Oh the fun that was!! We laughed and bowled and when I returned home to all the little ones I felt years younger!!

I collected empties too, mostly Coke and Seven up. I remember you could get a nickle for the big bottles so if I had six it was enough for a hamburger or ice cream Sundae at the Tastee Freeze. Or I could see a movie and even include the price of popcorn and a drink. 30 cents went so far in those times. :)

It certainly did. I remember when a coke went to 10 cents and thought that was insane!!

I remember when they first switched from bottles to cans. I still like soda in a bottle better.

Me too! The first time I remember drinking from the cans was in Alaska in 59. They didn't want to ship the bottles up there...cans were easier...so cans we got. :)

How about this for fuel and car prices? We had a MB [190D]in Alaska in 66...paid $2800. for it when it was two years old. It ran on diesel. In the winter time you had to keep it plugged in to an outside plug in when not using it. When you started it you pulled a go plug for a minute or so before it started. We paid about 30 cents a gallon for diesel fuel and we got 30 or more miles to the gallon. In 67 we drove down the Alaska Highway and across to the midwest and back to Alaska ...about 11,000 miles including side trips to visit relatives. Our fuel bill was $153. :sigh:
