Permanent wave machine invented in 1928 by Marjorie Joyner - The first African American woman to receive a patent
Dear McWilliams,
I do understand because my mother did something like that, only she used these rags strips and bobby pins to make me long curls. I never had a permanent though because my hair was curly. The effect, however, was not to make me like Shirley Temple, but more like Margaret O'Brien.
Okay, old time movie fans, who here besides me remembers Margaret O'Brien?

I don't remember Margaret O'Brien with Mickey Rooney, but do recall that Elizabeth Taylor played with him in National Velvet.
