Even in the LotR, you only saw them in one battle, they were fleeing to leave on their ships to preserve their lives, whilst the rest of Middle Earth dealt with the armies of Mordor. (Aside from Legolas)

Imagine if you were dating an elf, and some guy was giving you trouble on your date, then you turn around to ask your elf boyfriend to sort him out, bam! he's nowhere to be seen! Instead he leaves you with a cloak or a light bulb

and not to mention Gandalf was the worst tactician...

If the Elves had gathered together and marched on the Black Gates of Mordor like Aragorn did at the end to distract them, Frodo and Gandalf could have flown on the giant eagles over Mount Doom and thrown the ring into the fires.

- The armies of Mordor would not have been as large at that time
- Saruman would not have had his Uruk-Hai army
- A lot less people would have died as a result
- The Nazgul did not have their flying beasts at this stage either to stop them

But I guess it would have defeated the purpose of the story lol.
