  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yes, I have a best friend. She is not a spouse, not a parent and not a sibling. But here are the traits I most admire in her:

My bestest longest girlfriend has a heart so big and I admire her and her heart.

She never says I don't have time to listen to your story. She never says Sorry won't help you, no matter what else she needs to do for herself. She shows up at your door and surprises you with bagels, coffee and balloons on your birthday. When you lost your husband and decided to get a bird to meet that nurturing gene all women have, she offers to drive the 1 1/2 hours with you to pickup the bird. You get there and you find out your new little buddy has already been paid for - by who else your bestest longest girlfriend. In 39 years of friendship she has never judged you, never told you what a stupid mistake you made in 1973 then again in 1979, and she was there to bring you home when your husband went to be with the Lord. She stayed up till 2 a.m. helping you select photos for a PowerPoint loop, despite the fact that her own eye disease requires she get adequate rest. She is always OK according to her. She has made you promise that if you are ever so down and crying that you cannot speak you will call her. You know if that happens and you make the call before she lets you off that phone you will be laughing your head off.

And the most important thing I admire about her is that I am not the only person she does these things for. She befriends the friendless. People that others shun she goes to.

You know you are fortunate God sent her to your door 39 years ago looking for a babysitter to watch her two little girls while she ran to the store.

God gave you one of the best tangible gifts he could when he put her in your life.

And that is my best friend and I love her to death!

No ... I lost her to cancer 16 months ago. If you do have a best friend, cherish them and let them know they are precious in your life ... 'cause life is fragile and they may be taken before your time. That is right - before YOUR time. I could give you a dissertation on love, companionship, commitment, friendship; unfortunately, you need to learn it for yourself. JUST let them know!

I've had the same best friend since second grade, but he moved out of state, so we don't see each other often anymore, though we do talk regularly.

Here my best friends are my siblings, my husband, and my church friends. I also have one friend from college that I can talk to about absolutely anything and who will do anything with me. :)

I've had a truly best friend for about 17 years. She's not a Christian, but she's stuck by me through everything...far more than my other friends. She lives across the country now, but we usually talk on the phone once a week. I have other friends, but this one...well...she's my best-good friend.

I have a few best friends that know me better than anyone else. The one who lives close to me (who is basically my brother and was my main friend through high school and into college) seems to struggle all the time with things and just can't seem to get his life in order. Very irresponsible.

My other BFF (hehe) lives a few states over and is doing well. We don't necessarily talk as much as I'd like because of our busy schedules but he's still amazing in many ways.

I don't have any friends :( We live out in the middle of nowhere!
aww, I'll be your friend Diane :). Hard starting out, I know, it's taken me 3-4yrs to start making new friends. Church is a good starting place.

A rare thing, you are blessed nursiegirl.

That's great t1ck. It's hard though to keep in touch with friends that live long distance, but they can be in your heart. Social networks like facebook and myspace are great ways to keep the connection - pictures and short notes.

Nice to read about best friends on here!
