Yes I do fast. I believe that fasting, just like praying is one of the requirement of being a christian. Fasting will help you to build a closer relationship with God, will strengthen you Spiritual and will feed the Spirit of God. Just like our physical body need food, the same way our Spiritual man need 'food', one such food is regular sincere fasting

I havent done it in a long while, but have done so before. I have done the 3 day fasts before, and those are always challenging and uplifting, when done in the right manner.

They all usually have similar traits. The first day, you battle with temptation of eating. The second day, is when everything goes wrong, with a vengeance, and God seems to be nowhere around, or I cannot hear from God. But with all that happening, it causes me to pray even more. The third day is when I either have relief or hear from God, with clarity, and either the problem is resolved, or God leads me to another direction.

Once, when I was backslidden, and we had trouble, I fasted three days, but did not pray, and all that was don in vain, with no results. So Praying and seeking God is Vital.

I started a liquids only fast yesterday, except for dinners. I can already see some of the spiritual benefits, even though it's too early to see the totality of what God will bless me with during this fast. My intent is to do it for this week.

I used to fast for two meals (supposed to not have water, but I'd always drink it since I needed something in my stomach) once a month when I was Mormon, but since then, I haven't. I'd like to try for more than two meals and see how I feel. I think I used to before I was Mormon, but I honestly can't remember.

Lately I've been fasting two meals a day. It kind of happened on its own, but I've turned it into a spiritual thing for myself. Whenever I get hungry for those two meals, I pray and listen to worship music. It's really been helping me spiritually.

Christ said, My disciples will fast.

If one does not fast (at least to some minimal degree), how can one in all honesty call oneself a disciple of Christ?

Okay, I have to admit this I find hard to understand. I have asked questions about fasting before, having been very insecure about it because I faint even when I just eat very little for a few days. I have recently asked my doctor about fasting and explained to him that I thought it could be a good thing to do for different reasons. He told me not to. Apparently, I generally have low blood pressure, he said it would make my migrianes a lot worse and he thinks I don't weigh enough. All I can do is not have breakfast (am not really a breakfast fan anyway), but then by noon I get so incredibly shake I struggle to do anything.

So does not having breakfast on days when I don't have to go anywhere in the morning count as minimal fasting? If not, should I really just disregard my doctor's advice?

I'll fast one meal a day if I'm praying for something very important. I usually do this for three or four days and then I'll stop. If in a week or two the problem isn't solved, I'll continue my fast.

I usually fast on Fridays during Lent, with a partial fast the rest of the time during that season. I also fast from Good Friday until Easter morning. During this period, I find that fasting, along with study of the Scriptures and other profitable reading, helps deepen my prayer life and my focus towards our Lord.

I have good intentions of fasting at other times, but, while my spirit is willing, my flesh is weak.

That is fantastic ShoetoYou!

I was fasting thrice weekly over a year ago and now fast during the day with evening times coming a little unstuck around dinner hour.

I fast from television, music and earthly things while praying from my heart to Jesus and The Blessed Virgin Mary and receive Jesus speaking to my heart IF I have put the effort in while repenting daily and weekly of sins in genuine contrition while focussing on Jesus' bitter Passion.

Fasting from food, Fasting from earthly things, (as greatly as possible), Fasting from sin (as greatly as possible), Fasting from blockages that satan tries in temptation, has Jesus God and The Holy Spirit speaking to hearts, Loving and guiding in His Holy Wisdom more powerfully, because satan is removed greatly through Fasting of food, alcohol, substances, in addition, other earthly things which include materialism and materialistic thoughts, ego pride and vanity. in particular.

Praying to Jesus for His most Loving strength for Fasting of all things not of God is fantastic.

Love and kindest wishes your Sister in Jesus Christ our Saviour

Yes, fasting can deepen our relationship with the Holy One, when combined with intense prayer. There seems to be a good reason that Jesus calls us to do that, and why many of the saints throughout the ages have fasted.

Fasting thrice weekly? Very commendable. I'd like to just manage even once a week, as well as my Lenten fasting, and I'd like to start some fasting during Advent, in preparation for the commemoration of our Lord's birth.

I fast every week (or try to) and I'd recommend this to anyone! It's absolutely amazing and super rewarding. My church is now preparing for a week long fast new week, which I'm very excited for. And I fast each Monday as part of the worship team. This time is always blessed as we seek His face as a team.

This might sound like a stupid question, but how often is that? One day per week or several? How long can you do that?

I have to admit that I have thought a lot about fasting and also talked to my father about it since we both have health issues. He has diabetes which wasn't discovered for along time and is hard to control now and I have chronic migraine which can be triggered by leaving my normal rhythm, including skipping meals. I can skip one meal if I have a snack later, but a complete day without eating, let alone several, would trigger major migraine attacks - so would bingeing btw. which means I would never consider just having an entire bag of chrisps or big ammounts like that, but that isn't the issue here.
Since I study and work, I have a ful day which is hard enough with the chronic migraines, so for now Ihave decided not to fast. Plus, I used to have anorexia nervosa and my body image is still not good. It took me a long time to recover and to learn to eat normally, not starve myself for a day and then binge. I finally managed to develop normal hunger again, craving for healthy foods, as well as feeling full and completely satisfied after normal meals and I really don't want to lose that.

One question about fasting, though because that is a thought that really scares me. I sometimes have days when I'm really, really anxious and can't eat until the afternoon. Eventuelly, I start getting extremely shaky and dizzy. Once, when I ate very little for several days (about a cereal bar per days) I fainted once and for the rest of the time, I was always very dizzy and very close to fainting - in those cases I had some dextrose because I could feel that I was losing it, blackness etc. Today that would be even more dangerous because I have to cycle to a lot of places, so if Iwas constantly on the verge of fainting, I would be a great danger to myself and others. Do those of you who fast experience that? How do you deal with that during every-day life? How do you go grocery-shopping or to work without fainting? The one time I did, luckily, I was already in hospital, but I wouldn't want to faint outside and have an ambulance car take me to hospital. How do you avoid that?

I fast every Wednesday and Friday as our church says, and I will try to keep some or part of the Four Great Fasts on this year.

How is my fasting? I don't eat meat, milk, cheese, eggs, nothing with oil like sunflower oil and I don't drink alcohol (I never drink alcohol, actually). And not just that, I try to pray, read about the Scripture and have a fast on my heart too.

Shakiness and dizziness are normal, but not if you experience them
all the time.

Blacking out isn't. I'd recommend to see a physician before
starting another fast. Perhaps you have low blood sugar
problem.
Just trying to help!
:)
