Physical effect: I noticed that my urine was very dark thev day after the fast, I guess the toxins were being flushed out.

Err... thats dehydration. Are you drinking enough fluids? :eek:
Its not generally a good thing when your urine changes color (dark yellow or brown), ideally it should be clear. Unless you were consuming black tea or soda.

Yes, I fast from meat every Friday when I remember to do so. I also fast from most food on every Lenten Friday. And then there is the one hour fast that I do before every holy Mass.

I fast always. But not by witholding food or drink. This is the fast I keep;

(Isa 58:6)Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
(Isa 58:7)Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?
(Isa 58:8) Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rereward.
(Isa 58:9) Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;
(Isa 58:10) And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noonday:
(Isa 58:11) And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.

Blessings in Christ

fasting just draws me so much closer to GOD :) I find it difficult to pray when I fast though, i just seem to tuck up closer, if that makes sense. I have found that satan hates me to fast, and has tried to draw me into to fasting for vanity purposes! I reccomend not weighing yourself when you fast (or just before/after) and decide with God before you start how long to fast for, or what is going to be your sign from God that you need to stop. I have been tempted to do longer the Holy Spirit has asked, and that's not good for your health, as ezeretane said. We need to be sensible after all!!

I do not fast, especially now.

My work has me out in the blazingly hot Florida sun 5 - 6 days a week. So the need for eating is that much more important for me. With my hypoglycemia on top of it, not eating and being out in the heat is a recipe for disaster.

Yes, I do drink plenty of fluids.

The truth is, I am a bit confused about fasting. I will not starve myself, didnt work the last time. I am trying to 'complete' a fast, but I didn't have a solid fast plan, and now I know I need to be more strict than I was. I was ding a 40 day fast, and I only have about a week left, and now I feel I need to get more serious than I was. Becuase I want a breakthru I am doing this, and part of me thinks the only way to do it 'right' is to basically starve. Is this true? Have anybody had breakthru's without starving and done partial fasts? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Also, with husband home for two weeks and me needing to be a wife and cooking for him--He's not 'religious'. And I absolutley cannot explain to him why I am fasting, he wouldnt understand. I'm afraid of scaring him away from the faith.

I started a 3-day partial fast a couple of days ago (only fruit, vegetables, herbal tea and water), having been prompted by the Holy Spirit after a period of serious binge eating. (I am quite overweight.) I have about 7 hours left and I must say I am looking forward to breaking it! However it has been a valuable experience in that it's shown me I CAN resist the urge to eat junk food and that hunger pangs aren't going to kill me. :) I am thinking of trying a clear liquid fast next time (for a shorter time though, maybe 48 hours), as it would make sense that if I'm not digesting ANY solid food, I'm probably going to feel less hungry.

Good afternoon to you. I am so excited to be a part of this new Christian Forum and came here specifically to share my own lifelong fasting experiences. I have been doing them (also for health purposes) since age 18. I was raised in a God-fearing home, but came to Christ on my own at a Billy Graham crusade in 1976. I have seen the clarity throughout my Life that comes with fasting and also the revelation that is given us by His Holy Spirit when we deny ourself, and press into Him. I am currently on a Fast for our Nation, (USA), for the members of my prayer groups (two online and one each at the two churches I attend), for my family and friends' requests, and finally for my own personal physical healing from a severe bout of MRSA, two breaks in my ankle, other damage to leg and other ankle which I have been suffering from for a year now after a bad boating fall in the Virgin Islands. Go figure, I swim with sharks and barracuda for 8 hours only to fall off a speed boat and slam against a dock. No fun at all and with the added infection I acquired, it set me back alot. In any case, my longest fast prior to this was 17 days in early 2010 and typically I fast 3-4 days about once every 3 months and one long fast each 6 months. Today I am on Day #19 in my current promise to the Lord of 21 days. I feel so alive and good I am tempted to try 30, but I am quite physically active so I believe I will just stick with my initial promise. I was wondering if anyone here has broken a long fast and if so what did you eat. I plan to stick with juices and soups for awhile. The fasts I do are all Absolute Fasts with Water and Tea only. All the best to you and let me know. In the interim, I join you in your prayer requests and trust you will join me in mine. In His Service... P.S. My ultimate goal, is to fast 40 days as Jesus and Moses did. How amazing THAT must be. This past 19 days have been G L O R I O U S!!
