Hi everyone,

I have just started listening to "three abn radio" at least that is what I think it is. Every health program on there seems to convey that meat shouldn't be consumed. Now please understand I do believe that we should not eat the unclean meats told in the bible, but what about the clean meats. Are seventh day adventists allowed to eat the clean meats.

Thanks for your question.

While I certainly can't speak for all Adventist's I can share with you that I do, on occasion, eat meat - mainly fish. I eat red meat maybe once every two weeks, but I have cut back tremendously from just a few years ago where it was red meat and potatoes every night.

I also eat chicken from time to time, but maybe two times a month. I've cut back alot on most animal based products and eat vegetarian most of the time. Shameless plug: I had a Subway VeggieDelight sammy the other night for din-din - yummy!

Hello Ultima,

Pretty much this subject is an "as you are convicted so move" type thing. It is true that SDA's hold that meat should not be consumed, simply because it is healthier. However not all of us are strict vegans. I went from eating meat, to not eating red meat, to not eating red meat or chicken, back to not eating meat, then to only eating chicken and fish. :)

I'd say pray about it and let the Lord lead you. I myself hope to get to a point where I can go back to just eating fish occasionally. 3ABN is a great station, I hope you continue to listen to it. You're guaranteed to learn a lot, just let the Lord lead you.

Hi Ultima, and for a third position--lol--I am totally vegan! I started out over 30 years ago, after hearing the health message of the SDA church as a ovo-lacto vegetarian. Meaning I quit eating the flesh of all animals but continued to consume their 'by-products'. But as time progressed and I learned that ALL animal products are not good for the human body--and because of my love for animals, I gave it ALL up and haven't regretted one minute of it.
(SHUU--now how was that for a run on sentence--lol).

If you ever get a chance, read the book "The China Study", it will indeed encourage you to become a vegan. If people understood the true damage that dairy has on our system, they would demand that the dairy industry be sued for false advertising!

One more thought. Since 'in the beginning' God created us to be vegans, and it seems according to certain scriptures that we are going back to the Eden diet in the new earth, I think it just makes good sense to start the process now.

1Co 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

The SDA faith encourages refraining from meat for health reasons and because that's what the Lord intended for us. Today there are often many problems with meat, even with clean meat. However, it's a personal choice that each individual makes for himself/herself.

It is not "what the Lord intended", that's you and your denominations's personal spin on it-nothing else. Read your Bible, there are countless reference to God's servants eating meat. If eating meat is good enough for Jesus and many other of God's servants, it's good enough for everyone else.

It is what the Lord intended. Go read Genesis and how the world was before sin - and just give it some real thought. It has nothing to do with denomination this or that.

Just because God's servants ate meat does not mean that God really intended it to be that way. There are many realities in this world that God did not intend for us. Do you seriously think that God intended for us to kill the animals he created for food? If so, why didn't Adam and Eve do so before sin? It's simple really.

You know, I've been feeling dog tired too lately. 10 minutes after I wake up I want to go back to bed.

Must be all the strafing of the skies they've done lately.

A point of rebuff: Was the meat that Christ ate injected with steroids or growth hormone? Were the cattle of that day fed the processed remains of other dead cows? Were any of the animals genetically altered in any way? These are wonderful reasons why eating even biblically clean meats should be refrained from today. We (humans) have poisoned the food supply.

Further: According to the biblical accounts of what the new earth will be like, it seems that ALL creatures will be vegetarian (Isa 11:6-9). Why not start now and prepare for our future?

Isa 11:6-9 - 6 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. 7 And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. 8 And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den. 9 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

And please understand, these passages as referring to the literal new earth are not solely an 'Adventist' interpretation; this view is shared by the great Jamieson, Fawsset & Brown commentaries, Adam Clarke, & John Wesley, to name a few.

But while we are on the topic of the new heavens and the new earth, look at what else God has to say in regards to diet during that time:

Isa 66:17 - They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree in the midst, eating swine's flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, shall be consumed together, saith the LORD.
(please read the entire chapter for the sake of context)

While I understand such may be a controversial topic we cannot merely dismiss what God has to say on the subject.

With all due respect, that's faulty reasoning. David had multiple wives. Solomon had 1000 wives/concubines. Hey, if it's in the bible, it's good enough for me. Do you suppose your wife would raise an objection to this point?

And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: - Acts 17:30
