Do I need to tithe every time I get pay?

God loves a cheerful giver! :)

I do think that the church is not under the law - which is where tithing belongs - even though freewill offerings of a tenth or more than a tenth can be excellent, without obligation.

I agree. Justin Martyr described a Sunday service and it was free will and only by those who could afford to give. The money was then distributed to the poor. The RCC brought it back when they needed money, at the same time they instituted the heretical indulgences.

My question is, If there are tithes as an obligation as opposed to freewill offerings, where are the Levites to give them to? Hebrews 7.12 makes it clear that the priesthood and the law have been changed.

Dear Luce. To tithe
is given our tenth of income. But we all earn differently, To give God our tenth, seems straight enough. I Believe if we give to God what we can afford. God is Love, and God Loves us, we have God to help us when we need Him. Jesus told us in Matthew 22: 35-40: Love God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. The second Commandment is; Treat thy neighbour as thyself. On these two Commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets. So if we give what we can afford, God will know it, and God will Love us.
The Bible tells us: give up our selfish thoughts and wishes, and start LOVING God with all our hearts and souls. God LOVES US, and Jesus died for us, let us now LOVE GOD and love each other, with heart, soul, and money. I say this with love, Luce. Greetings from Emmy, your sister in Christ.

This new year I decided that I want to tithe but I was wondering do I need to tithe every time I get pay or can I tithe once a month?
Are you Jewish? Tithing is not a Christian concept. Giving, however, is. Tithing was to ancient jews what taxes are to us today. It is how they supported their theocracy. It also was not money.

Tithing is mentioned once in the new testament. And even then, it is Jesus telling jews they should have done the tithing they did, but not have ignored more important things. Past tense.

By all means, give. Give 'till it hurts. But it's not tithing.

Do you have scripture that state this?: that tithe is ten percent of money that we earn.... This would help out the OP and other readers. If this is an opinion, that is ok as well.

If you believe that you will be blessed by giving a certain percentage to the church......you will be and you shouldn't let anyone discourage you from doing so. This seem to be more of a money management question.......for this, It would seem better and easier to me to give a little twice a month, than a lot once a month......but which ever you decide should become easier as after doing it for a while. Continue to give and support and you will continue to receive and be supported.

Keep in mind, however....That God said to give the coins to the ones who faces are on them...and give Him what is His. After you are done giving man the paper that bears man's image....try to understand what is it that belong to God and give that directly to Him as well.

Like many here have already said tithe when you can it's not mandatory. Tithing was for the Levitical priest and as far as I know we don't have any of those anymore. Because when Christ came he took over the priesthood as well as the the kingship.

The questions is whether to tithe bi-weekly or monthly. Not understanding why people are asking and answering their own questions....namely: IS tithe biblical?, What is Tithe? and Should I tithes?
Then the obvious answer is, "It doesn't matter. Do it annually if you want.

lol, I agree it doesnt matter. But no "Tithe or die" church would be ok with an annual tithe.....it just isn't good for business. Biweekly is the best for the business, with monthly being second. If you want to go better, there are churches that auto-deduct 10% from your check before it reaches the bank! This may be the best option for the OP and definitely the best for the church.

Tithing in "Christian" churches has become a hot button for me, once I studied the concept. Your post nails part of it.

I've learned to pass through the plate at my church (without putting anything in it) guilt free, but it's taken a while. The fun part is that I give in cash, so nobody knows how much I give. Nobody.

You do not need to tithe ever. We are not commanded to tithe as Christians. Tithing was specific to the OT and was specific items and it was never money. Christians have free will giving.

1 Corinthians 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

Any pastor quoting Malachi 3 telling you that you are robbing God if you do not tithe is lying to you either willfully deceptive or is ignorant.

Well, exactly; Hebrews 7.12 clearly indicates that both the Levitical priesthood and the law itself were changed.

While it might suit certainly Reverend Gentlemen to claim otherwise, now the emphasis under the New Testament order of things is for freewill offerings - these might even be for a 10th or even more than a 10th, but they are not obligatory, as under the Old Testament for Jews.

Tithe is not a requirement and how much and when you pay is between you and the Lord God.

However, if you choose not to give, why? Rhetorical, you don't owe me an answer.

I'd say avoid Christian(and most religious charities in general) charities, though, as they're amongst the worst for the amount of your dollar getting to those that need it.

Really bad generalization you write here.

There are many who claim to be Christian who are simply not. Yes, whom you give charity to should involve wisdom and discernment, but not all Christian charities are corrupt as you imply.

Well, the way I see it is... do you want to "give" or do you want to "tithe".

Without getting into whether it is biblical to do so or expected of you.... to tithe means to give a tenth of your first fruits. Someone already said this.

So, if you want to give, give what you want, what you feel, what you are lead to give.
If you are going to tithe... it means one tenth of your income. That's one tenth of all your income.. not just every other week or once a month. This is by definition.

I'm not saying you should, or you shouldn't. I do know that anything you give should be done with gladness... not as a duty or chore.

You tithe because you want to. There is no commandment for a Christian to do so.
Therefore, because you are doing something voluntarily of your own choice, there are no rules at all. You set the rules for yourself. Do it. Don't do it. Do it sometimes - it's all entirely up to you. Tithing is a requirement of Old Testament Hebrews living under the Temple. It is not a rule for Christians.

No tithe does not mean a tenth of your first fruits. First the tithe was specific and often was more than 10%. The tithe was only specific items and was not money. It had to come from Israel and was for the Levites who had NO inheritance. You could also redeem it. Can you redeem your tithe from your pastor? Doubt it. Try it sometime. Tell them you want 200 dollars back redeemed, minus the 20% interest.

First fruit was that. There was a first fruit "offering", not a tithe, it was an offering and it could be a handful of grain.
