CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Anyone ever been to Florence, Italy? The great astronomer and physicist Galileo died in 1642 at age 77 near there. As is well-known, he'd been under house arrest since 1633 for suspicion of heresy. His original burial place was a small room in the Basilica of Santa Croce in Florence. About 100 years later, his remains were disinterred and reburied in the main section of the basilica near a monument erected in his honor. Before being reburied, several fingers were removed from his hands. (A vertebra and teeth were also taken. Taking relics of important deceased persons was a common practice back then.) His left 3rd finger--including the metacarpal--was eventually put on display in a Florentine science museum, now known as the Museo Galileo. The mummified finger is resting in an ornate glass vessel trimmed with golden metalwork.
It's mega cool. The only thing cooler would be if the display was facing southeast towards Rome. So the great astronomer would be forever giving the 3rd finger salute to the Vatican.
