Did God then break a promise? He did not do so with the angels.Either way Adam wouldn’t have died spiritually or physically if he had never sinned so he did have eternal life before the fall.
Eternal life is the Holy Spirit given to church age believers. It does not refer to our human spirit that all OT believers received when they became born again. The human spirit makes us to be spiritual - able to comprehend and to know spiritual realities. Eternal life is God sharing His life with us. That happens by means of the filing of the Holy Spirit that is given to all who believe in the church age.
I can't say I know the answer to this question but here are biblical verses that could be used to argue that eternal life was not a gift from God prior to Jesus' sacrifice on the cross.
Genesis 3:22
22 And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.”
Ecc 3:18-22
18 I also said to myself, “As for humans, God tests them so that they may see that they are like the animals. 19 Surely the fate of human beings is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath[c]; humans have no advantage over animals. Everything is meaningless. 20 All go to the same place; all come from dust, and to dust all return. 21 Who knows if the human spirit rises upward and if the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth?”
John 6: 67-69
67 So Jesus asked the Twelve, “Do you want to leave too?”
68 Simon Peter replied, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69We believe and know that You are the Holy One of God.”
John 4:7-13
7 When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” 8 (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.)
9 The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.
10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”
11 “Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?”
13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
There is a misconception that you posted, and that is........"died spiritually".
And this word "died" is related to how a human thinks........which is to end.....to stop.
However, the bible is a spiritual book.....And Adam's spirit didn't die, ... but this phrase "died spiritually" if taken for face value says exactly that.
Either way Adam wouldn’t have died spiritually or physically if he had never sinned so he did have eternal life before the fall.
Not quite...Being born again, means that the Holy Spirit who created JESUS inside a Virgin's womb.......also births our spirit into God's, ..
This is to become "one with God"....>"in Christ".
= Born Again .... Spiritually
Some clarification is needed, please. In other words..>"God who is A Spirit", created Christ in a virgin's womb without male seed.
Words spoken about the fetus that was prepared (not created) and was to become his body when born of Mary.
Christ was never created anywhere. For Christ is God. And, God is never created.
Just wanted to clarify..
As long as man heeds the voice of God, he will live. Adam failed that test at some point in Eden. We're here to have Adam's choice reversed in us, his doubt, his lack of faith, hope, and love. We're here, with the help of revelation and grace-combined with the experience of a godless world-to come to regain the knowledge of God, and to heed His voice again. This issue was raised in another thread that I didn't get a chance to respond to as I went on holidays and it was off topic so thought I would deal with it here and see what you all have to say for yourselves.
I say he didn't as eternal life is imputed to our spirit and if Adam had eternal life he could not have died spiritually. It's also the reason we don't die even though we sin. You can't perish (spiritually) and have eternal life at the same time.
John 3:15
that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.
What say you?
God created Jesus as God in the Flesh.
1 Timothy 3:16
"God is A Spirit".
"The Holy Spirit".
The Holy Spirit created the God Man, inside the womb of Virgin Mary.
The Angel Gabriel said of this Holy SEED, in Mary... ...""""you will conceive in your womb and bear a son"""
To "conceive" is when sperm and egg become joined.
IN this case, God's seed was the Holy Word manifesting Christ the living Word, as joined to Mary's womb, eventually birthing "Emmanuel " "God with us".
The meaning of words are important.God created Jesus as God in the Flesh.
The one we now call Jesus ( with the exception of his body ) had existed before the Incarnation.
For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. John 6:38
He came down from heaven to make himself become as a man!
Jesus was not 'created' as God in the flesh. He became God in the flesh, manifesting Himself as a man.
The meaning of words are important.
What are you meaning when you use the word "created?"
Is it like when, "God created the heavens and earth."?
What promise are you talking about?Did God then break a promise? He did not do so with the angels.
How could he have been created when He has always been God?Jesus was created by the Holy Spirit inside a Virgin's womb as a HUMAN
"Jesus".
This is GOD wrapped in HUMAN flesh, come down from Heaven to do this.. = "Jesus came into the world to SAVE sinners".
He was God, pre-incarnate as John 1.How could he have been created when He has always been God?
...............................
Then why do you keep saying "Jesus was created by the Holy Spirit inside a Virgin's womb as a HUMAN"?He was God, pre-incarnate as John 1.
AS Jesus, "God became a Man"... 1 Timothy 3:16
God the Spirit, = The WORD was God
Jesus = "the Lord is that Spirit". 2 Corinthians 3:17
He's also "the Bread come down from Heaven"
He is also...>Jesus said....I am from Above and You are from Below
He is also ascended back to where He was before
Then why do you keep saying "Jesus was created by the Holy Spirit inside a Virgin's womb as a HUMAN"?
Do you think His humanity didn't exist prior to the Incarnation?
AS Jesus, "God became a Man"... 1 Timothy 3:16
