Good Day,

He is taking control of the mess created by the Biden administration like no other.

Governor Ron DeSantis Announces Proposals to Stop the Flow of Illegal Aliens and Protect Floridians from the Ongoing Biden Border Crisis

Snip: Today, Governor Ron DeSantis was joined by Congressman John Rutherford, Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry, Jacksonville Sheriff Mike Williams, and Public Safety Czar Larry Keefe to announce new proposals to fight illegal immigration and protect Floridians from the Biden Border Crisis. Governor DeSantis announced proposals for the upcoming legislative session to hold accountable private entities that knowingly or recklessly assist the Biden Administration in resettling illegal immigrants into Florida. The legislation would also strengthen E-verify enforcement and codify and build upon the steps he has taken to protect the state of Florida through Executive Order 21-223. Additionally, Governor DeSantis announced that the Department of Children and Families (DCF) published an emergency rule to prohibit the issuance or renewal of any license to house unaccompanied alien minors who seek to be resettled in Florida unless there is a cooperative agreement between the state and federal government. A one pager on the proposal and the DCF rule can be found here.

Call me a fool but aren't most illegals kinda keen to stay around family that's currently in Florida?

At the same time I've heard there are laitn American conservatives in florida who are pretty anti immigration/illegal immigrant.

Hi @BBAS 64

Well, it will certainly be worth keeping an eye on what develops of this. According to the article, it's a proposal and it's got the support of what, five Florida politicians. That's not really a 'sweeping' measure.
Admittedly, a lot of the country has heard a lot about immigration these days. A lot of it not really true, but it's out there.

Some are complaining that illegal immigration hurts jobs in America. That doesn't ring true with our having an amazingly low unemployment for decades now, except of course during crisis in which people get laid off from their work for various economic reasons. Some claim that illegal immigrants get a free ride when they get here. That isn't particularly true either. Medicaid is only authorized to provide emergency medical services and even though they work and pay into the SS tax fund, unless and until they gain citizenship, they will never get to draw any of that money when they're old. Illegal immigration is actually a gain for SS. They also pay income taxes if they work, and property taxes if they live in a house or apartment or any other taxed structure in which they might reside.

It's been my experience that most illegal immigrants aren't here to get a free hand out. They may, for a short while when they first get here, not pay their fair share, but ultimately they will get jobs and pay taxes and buy consumer goods at the local Walmart (or wherever). It's really not like immigrants, illegal or otherwise, come here and just find a nice cozy couch to rest on the rest of their lives.

America is a nation of immigrants and as far as all that's required of immigrants today, all those who came over for the first 250 years of our nationhood, were processed as much as any immigrant today. At Ellis Island they just took your name and where you were from and some family information.

What were the requirements to come through Ellis Island?

No passports or visas were needed to enter the United States through Ellis Island at this time. In fact, no papers were required at all. More than 12 million immigrants passed through Ellis Island between 1892 and 1954—with a whopping 1,004,756 entering the United States in 1907 alone.

Of course, we're a lot meaner, greedier people today than we were in 1954.

God bless,
Ted
