  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Its Sad when Characters die...

Oh man! I just finished Chrono Crusade and it is so depressingly sad. I mean, both of them went to the next dimension (died). But overall, that series is a totally solid anime worth watching.

Fate/stay night and Bible black.
Also, in the Happiness OVA when Jun turned back into
a boy.

FSN is solid from the beginning to the end but very depressing for both parted ways, which then reminded me of Tsukihime, same story (BTW.... Oh great. An unexpected scene in Ep 11 (I HATE THOSE SCENES) RIDER KICK IT!!!)

Clannad (movie)
5 Centimeters per Second
Mahoromatic
Kanon (especially the Makoto story arc)

There are others, but those are the ones that immediately came to mind.

What the? Nice picks of anime there. Gundam Seed Destiny is what I consider depressing too for the last 20 Episodes went out of the line. I mean, the way it went. Kira should have done a few interventions and Athrun should have been more of a support. Now Gundam Seed Destiny is no more than an isomerized Star Wars ripoff.

Why?
-Chairman Dullindal is like a Chancellor Palpatine
-Kira is like Luke Skywalker
-Rey and Shin are like the Darth Vaders of this show.
-Athrun is like Obi Wan Kenobi
-Cagalli is the princess twin of Kira and are like Leah and Luke.

and Operation 66 is like the Destiny Program.

Probably the most depressing anime I've seen is Air.

It's about this girl who's called the Girl in the Sky. Whenever she falls in love with a man, she is cursed to reincarnate into another life. And it's about this guy and her two friends who try to help break the curse before she falls deeply in love with him.

I think the most obvious one is FullMetal Alchemist. There were several episodes which just left me an emotional wreck, they were so sad.

Neon Genesis Evangelion and a few episodes of Cowboy Bebop are downers, too.

Bokurano.

It makes FMA look like a the feel good anime of the year. After about episode 3, every episode leaves you in an emotional wreck. By the end, just hearing or seeing the openings will leave you in an emotional wreck, even years after you first watched it. And the irony of what it forces you to accept as a 'happy' ending is horrible.

It should be ciriticized by bearly covering a major plot peice. It is barely mentioned more than 10 secs the entire anime, but even while you wonder why things are happening, it doesn't change what is happening before your eyes.

Barefoot Gen was hard to watch and that's what really happened too. Grave of Fireflies is pretty sad too and I watched Gantz, it's very depressing and dark.

Gantz... lets no even go there. While it may have been some what depressing, there were (are?) a number of issues which make it more creepy than sad/depressing.

Nah, Gantz is okay if you get your mind past the shameless shock value of what it (constantly) throws at you: it's actually quite humourous in a sick sort of way. I didn't find it that depressing or creepy, but then maybe I was desensitised by other series.

Narutaru for example. That innoculates you against pretty much everything.
