  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well I'm not going to do that. I'm going to do my own research if you are (for whatever reason) unwilling to share your sources.

And as I do, it is not NEARLY as confident in that assertion as you make it out to be.
While MOST of them living on (or below?) minimum wage are under 19 (so it is a good presumption that MOST of them are not self sufficient....but CERTAINLY not all....and I'd wager more than a few of them may also be supporting their household income as opposed to "pocketing and saving".

I've shared my sources more than once. I shouldn't have to keep doing it over and over again. It's all there for you to find.

And I didn't say all. But it's a VERY rare occurrence that anyone is trying to live on minimum wage.

Can you not even give me the name of the publication of you have shared it so many times at least you could help with that.

I'll tell you want you provide links to prove I'm wrong. Then we can have a link fight. I know I'm right. And you and I have had these conversations before and I've provided links during them.

You have any evidence that what was posted in the OP is incorrect?
Sure. Posting empty claims and then, when asked for data supporting those claims, posts like the one I quoted are evidence that the OP isn't correct. Or is at least evidence that there's no good reason to think they are.

The whole "but you can't prove these claims wrong" approach is pretty good evidence that no one, including the person making the claims, has any idea why the clams might be true in the first place.

No. I've already explained the things I've read contradict what you say.

You do NOT need to provide a link. I only asked for a source name so I can narrow my search.

I can tell you I have NEVER debated that exact point with you.

If you can only choose between housing yourself and feeding yourself, then you may as well do neither.
you tell that to Americans

what they hear from me is, "something is less bad than nothing"

the OTHER option is a fair and just wage
the only "other" option Americans will ever actually see, in real life, besides "low wage", is "no job"

The End

cope & deal

pick one

You say out loud you want them to have "higher wages"

What you will actually give them in real life is "no job" whatsoever at all

what they heard from me is, "something is less bad than nothing"

You say that at 3/4$ America would have "full employment"....and yet I would bet there are exactly 0 Americans who would work for that wage
You're wrong

But how do we find out for sure?

I'll bet you, that in the absence of any minimum wage laws:
  • millions more Americans would become employed
  • at all wage levels, down to around $3-4/hr
  • at $3/hr and below, the "supply" of labor (# workers willing & able to work for that wage) would actually indeed fall below the "demand" for labor (# employers willing to hire at that wage)
  • the above wouldn't matter much, because the vast majority of American workers would already be employed
Again, there is a wage which wouldn't get Americans out of bed in the morning... but that wage is around $3.50/hr (not $15-$24)

Right now, millions of Americans are willing and able to work for $7.25/hour. Maybe they're not the most privileged people in human history, but they are alive, breathing, and supporting themselves.

Why do the likes of Bernie Sanders & AOC think all those people "need their friendly advice" on why their $7.25 jobs should be criminalized, outlawed, and destroyed?

Bernie Sanders & AOC are engaged in a multi-million-jobs destruction program

Utopian fantasies will not survive reality checks

Every additional dollar flowing into any worker's pocket helps out all workers, a least a little

the minimum wage should go up
Money from where?

Where. do. you. think. your. extra. money. will. come. from?

To workers like you... f.r.o.m. ___________________ (<-- please fill in the blank)

Who exactly has the piles of money lying around for workers like you?

Serious Q. I want to know where you think all the extra money will come from.

I think you should stand by your convictions and demand YOUR boss pays you 4$/hr. Sounds like you are really excited to make America better. That would be a great way to start.

People NEED higher wages. The fact that they "want" them is a bit irrelevant
They need air, water, and food.

Millions of Americans have been surviving for years on $7.25/hr.

If they actually "needed" $15/hr., they'd all be dead before any Socialist legislation was proposed, debated, passed, and enacted.

Millions of Americans breathing, drinking, and eating on their $7.25/hr. paychecks disprove your claims.

Millions more Americans actually starving for lack of any income whatsoever... them, they do actually in fact "need" work

There are no more jobs available at $7.25+ / hr.

Where could we find more jobs, more work, more money for workers??

Hmm.... Umm...... Mmmm.......

There's nothing left at $7.25 and up....

Maybe at less than $7.25 ??

I'll wager there are about ten million jobs potentially available between $4-7/hr

Ten million jobs x 1000-2000 hours per year x $5/hr = $50-100B / year

I claim I know how to put plus $50-100B / year more into American workers' pockets

Small potatoes compared to the hundreds of billions Bernie Sanders & AOC will remove from their pockets "in order to help them"

But, again, all I ever said was, "less bad than"

I claim American employers already know how to move the ball about plus $50-100B / year "in the right direction" for American workers

But they are opiated on Utopian fantasies :)

But workers "need" wages (from real jobs), not minimum wages (and no job)

Nonsense actually wins people over?

Who suggested driving down existing wages?

Millions of Americans, currently earning $0/hour, could earn billions more dollars per year, at $4-7/hour

Improving the wages, driving up the wages, of millions of Americans... by plus $4-7/hr more than they have right now

"less bad than"

Based on that graphic, Democrats care about a lot of things.

Interesting that "capitalism" is at the bottom of the list, seeing that it's the one thing that can save America going forward, and should be at the top of their list of concerns. :preach:

rise in the minimum wage and a living wage
@RINGO

When the minimum wage is hiked above your present wage...

you will lose your job

when that happens, and you know, that I know, that you know I told you so...

then what?

Just to be clear your argument is for full employment by forced labour for 4$/hr?

You don't know a chain of prisons by any chance do you?

How so?

Let me guess...."wreckless spending"....that you didn't care about for four years. Why start to care now? The debt ballooned like a baloon under trump. You didn't express concern then.
Don't bother doing it now.

Has biden or any of his democrats advocated for the opening of businesses so that the economy can actually get going again? Have they actually demonstrated any compassion at all for those who are losing everything because the government won't allow them to re-open their business? Have they done anything at all to protect the civil rights of those who are being silenced, censored, or outright cancelled because they didn't vote for biden?

My statement about underscoring the title of this thread still stands as truthful.

What does "PBS Attorney" have to do with the Democrats?

Is PBS, or the people who work for them, an organization that speaks for Republicans?
