The Marist poll conducted April 19-26 by live telephone interviewers asked voters which party’s candidate they would favor in their district if the congressional election were held today.

The survey found that since September, Hispanic support for generic Democrats fell from 54 percent to 39 percent, while support for Republicans nearly doubled from 28 percent to 52 percent.

Perhaps the most remarkable result was that black support for generic Republicans, which stood at 3 percent in September, surged to 20 percent, close to a sevenfold increase.

These findings are devastating for Democrats. In just over six months of being ruled by President Joe Biden, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, minorities have begun massive defections to the GOP.

This could be deadly for the Democrats’ prospects in the upcoming midterm elections.
On another important front:

President Joe Biden’s approval rating among 18-to-29-year-olds has dropped nearly 20 percentage points over the last year.

A national poll released Monday by the Institute of Politics at Harvard Kennedy School found Biden’s support among the demographic is underwater, with only 41 percent backing his job performance.

That is down from 46 percent approval for Biden in the Harvard Youth Poll this past fall and 59 percent approval in March 2021, shortly after the 46th president took office.

So how is this going to work out, if more Hispanics are allowed into our nation and they continue the trend to favor voting for Republicans? Makes me think of Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner

Perhaps this is why we hear republican politicians holler about the issue to get votes but actually do nothing to slow the flow of immigrants. They only seem to prioritize their own reelections, not the interests of constituents.

How do you suggest Republicans do something about illegal immigration when they have no power in the federal government? . .

During my life, republicans have had plenty of power in federal government. Presidents Nixon, Ford, Reagan, Bush, Bush Jr., trump. Your argument lacks logic. Immigration is too powerful a campaign issue for them to actually address it. Notwithstanding the benefits presented in the OP. Most voters are don't really invest time in learning more about the ACTIONS of politicians, being content with manipulations by the WORDS of politicians.

During the Trump administration illegal immigration was addressed and slowed down considerably.

Excuse me - President Trump's policies were very effective in slowing border crossings - then biden reversed them and we are being over run. The Democrats are loosing their base in several key demographics. The responsibility lands with their leadership and joe is part of that . At least I think he is.

Maybe those legal immigrants simply bided their time till America elected a humane president. Trump's America wasn't appealing to foreigners.

When do you suppose we will elect a humane President.

I cannot predict the whims of our American electorate. If we could unite and eschew the counterproductive tribalism infecting America we could actually hold our politicians accountable. We have the power, we just allow them to divide us and exploit us. We have more similarities than differences. Our emotions seem to betray us at the ballot box. Peace

That's really strange because Biden is the one allowing more Hispanics into the country with the border issue.
Perhaps this should be taken as a clue that Democrats are not encouraging illegal immigration in order to gain more votes?

You will have an opportunity to see exactly what the Republicans will do to slow the flow of immigrants after the mid term elections. Frankly they have done everything possible for them to do including solving the problem and having control of the border prior to Biden "fixing" things that were not broken and thereby creating the problem we now have.

I think that would be a totally unwarranted assumption based on ignoring the blatantly obvious.

Pretty much all the Hispanics I've known, which are a lot, are old school Roman Catholic conservatives.
An increasing number are Evangelicals, but not necessarily the poliicized Evangelicalism tha dominates the US now.

I should also add that several were pro-Trump as well.
Yeah, those rascally Hispanics have a range of political views. What cheek. We let them in the country, let them become citizens and everything and then they betray us by voting for whoever they want.
