I don’t see how Chuck Schumer’s comments this week could have any impact on Israel’s elections that are as of now still over 2 years away. There is simply no election going on for him to influence in any way by simply expressing an opinion. The only way I can see this in any way threatening Netenyahu’s grip on power is if his grip is already very weak.
The Basic Law, like most Westminster based systems, allows for early elections.
Schumer is actually calling for a coup. You need to be able to read between the lies.
Or maybe he's calling for a snap election, which is within the Israeli legal framework.

A snap election is nothing more than a coup. A coup is to overthrow the elected government. A snap election has the same purpose.

No, a snap election is an election. A coup is by its very nature illegitimate while snap elections are specifically allowed in the Basic law. If you do feel that snap elections are coups though, it's worth pointing out that Netanyahu was elected to his current term as PM in a snap election.

Doesn’t Israel operate under a parliamentary system of government?
Wikipedia said:
In Israel, parliament may vote to dissolve itself in order to call an election, or the prime minister may call a snap election with presidential consent if his government is deadlocked. A non-passage of the budget automatically calls a snap election.

It’s wild that this has to be explained to a thread full of political hobbyists.

Two things were done with this thread. One thing is that a number of posts that derailed to their own topic were removed and posted here:

Two, a clean up was done of off topic and snarky posts.

Please stay on topic. This takes time.

I believe you are missing the point of the thread -

American Politicians should not be calling for the overthrow of the leader of an independent nation as part of a pressure campaign to get results he agrees with.

Why not? The US has historically done far more for worse reasons.

Besides, Israel is putatively a democracy... so Schumer isn't calling for the "overthrow" of anyone. He's reflecting the reality that America's support for Israel is not unlimited and should not be taken for granted.

But it's legal, and happens frequently in Parliamentarian governments. Another strategy is to force a vote of no confidence which is also legal. Neither of these options has anything to do with overthrowing the Israeli government.

Ipso facto they must kill them too.
Yeah, neither Israel or Palestine wants a two-state solution. Jerusalem Post reported that 70% of Palestinians approved of Hamas attack on Israel.

He's demanding they hold new elections - not wait two years. Listen to his full comment... He's demanding [new] elections in Israel because Schumer doesn't like Netanyahu...

Maybe Biden and Schumer ought to invite all Palestinians to the US.

Ya know.... I saw that and thought, "Oh that's rich coming from that guy. I bet I can find something about him pushing for regime change elsewhere."

lol, did the internet deliver

John Bolton, speaking to Jake Tapper live on CNN’s “The Lead” on Tuesday afternoon, said that the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol was not a “carefully planned coup d’etat” — and that he would know.

“As somebody who has helped plan coups d’etat — not here but, you know, other places — it takes a lot of work, and that’s not what [President Donald Trump] did
