I'm glad to see you post in more than just the political forums, Sharp. While I've agreed with some of the things you've posted, your stance on Christ is a little too....... well, I don't know how to describe it.

Christ is the Son of God, the Word of God, the Sacrificial Lamb. His ministry on earth was two fold; to show the Glory of the coming Kingdom, and to show the proper attitude in obeying the Law.

The bible does condemn homosexuality. It doesn't say we are to condemn those that are unrepentent. That is Christ's judgement. We are to expose the world to the Good News of Christ, pray that those in the dark see the light, and turn from their ways. Nowhere does it say to ridicule, treat poorly, or withhold love from anyone, including gays.

What kind of church do you go to? Are you seperatists? Or are you a beacon of light on the path to the narrow gate? If your church isn't preaching the Truth through Love, then you need to find another church. And I'm saying this because I am worried about you. Don't harden your heart because you feel Christianity is a sport.

Show me a political party that does this, and I would vote for them.

Why don't you bring this up in the homosexuality and the Bible thread? If you are capable of actually discussing, rather than yelling and frothing, you're welcome to make the case. So far, no one's done a good job of making the crucial jump from homosexual sex to homosexuality.

I must come to Humbleman's defense he is not a yeller and a frother, not that I have ever seen.

Nah, he shouldn't be banned. He does occasionally come in here and look at our responses. And I feel that if given enough time to allow our festering liberal plague to get around him, he might get sick too and become a little more liberal. Or something.

I have such a lot to thank you for. Before coming to CF, I was worried that my unorthodox views, which vacilate on an almost daily basis from 'I dont believe in God' to 'more conservative than gengis khan'.

Thanks to your ministry, I am more convinced than ever that God is big enough and almighty enough to cope with me and my oddities. I am so liberal now! By which I mean comfortable in my own beliefs, and comfortable with other peoples, who are happy to let me 'work out my own salvation' so to speak. I really think God is far more gracious than you give him credit for. I have you to thank for that. I used to worry that if on any given day I hadn't got my doctrine just right, I was going to get splated by a big red bus, and that would be me, toasty toasty! How ridiculous! And you have been instrumental in helping me to realise this.

Judas (treasurer of the Disciples and a stereotypical parsinimous Jew--no one's real name was ever "Judas", it is simply a Latinization of the phrase "a Jew" used to encourage anti-Semitism) objected to her spending the money.

Umm, actually Judas is pretty near the Greek: Ioudas.Judas, Judah, and Jude are all the same name in Greek. I suspect (but I don't know) that English forms of the other two names were chosen so as to be different in English to avoid association between the two good guys and the bad guy.

A wide variety of Hebrew and Jewish names were modified by adding a -s to produce the Greek versions. This is why Jeremiah becomes Jeremias in the Douai version. And remember that the initial "Dzh" sound we give to "J" was highly uncommon if existent at all in other languages -- Johann is pronounced as the German "Yo-han" and technically the "J" names borrowed from Hebrew should receive the same "Y-" sound instead of the English "J" as in "jump."

Yehudah was the name of Yakov's fourth son -- we know them respectively as Judah and Jacob. The brother of James and the man of Iscariot were both Yehudahs in Hebrew, apparently Yudahs in Aramaic, and Judases in Greek. But to assure that one distinguishes between the two men, Judas Iscariot and Jude the brother of James are the standard English usages.

Note that Jesus was named after Joshua son of Nun and Jeshua the high priest -- if not "named after" at least given the same name. We see a difference because we use the Greek form for our Savior and the two Hebrew variants on the basic name Yehoshua for Moses's successor and Zerubbabel's right-hand man.

Thanks for that, Polycarp. I really do find that sort of thing fascinating. I had realised Judas, Jude and Judah were all the same name, but hadn't appreciated Yehudah was the original name, nor that Jakob was originally Jakov.

I have a brother-in-law named Jesus. what I find fascinating is not so much that Hispanics name their kids Jesus sometimes (pronounced "Hay-sus' ") but that anglos don't.
