I think he means that though it looks like he made a mistake when you look at things the right way he wasn't wrong. He never seems comfortable being wrong, which is odd considering how much practice he has had at it.

The sense I get is that he didn't know how to actually answer the original question, so he's invoking these bizarre metaphors instead to cover up that fact.

Probably would have been better to just leave the question unanswered.

Anyone who says they don't make accounting errors either doesn't do accounting or is lying. :p

Obviously!
My accounts are way past what I could
do on my own, esp. as whatever the stereotype
about Asians and math, I am terrible with numbers.

There are are some good examples of this "stereotype" such as Terrence Tao a Field Medalist which is the maths equivalent of a Nobel Prize.
He is so good the Americans have claimed him as one of their own despite being born and educated in Australia.
Now considered one of the world’s greatest mathematicians, Tao, a professor at UCLA, has been precocious his entire life. He scored 760 on the math portion of the SAT at the age of 9, earned his Ph.D. at 20, and was granted tenure at 24. He has been called “the Mozart of math.”

Fair. I guess. The Seattle reds or whatever
teams don't just use players from their town.

Interesting but to me incomprehensible
minds, these math geniuses.
