Proverbs 25
Everyone read Chapter 25 if it is the 25th day of the month today. Come back and give us your thoughts....Tishri1 :wave:
Proverbs 25New International Version (NIV)

More Proverbs of Solomon
25 These are more proverbs of Solomon, compiled by the men of Hezekiah king of Judah:

2 It is the glory of God to conceal a matter;
to search out a matter is the glory of kings.
3 As the heavens are high and the earth is deep,
so the hearts of kings are unsearchable.

4 Remove the dross from the silver,
and a silversmith can produce a vessel;
5 remove wicked officials from the king’s presence,
and his throne will be established through righteousness.

6 Do not exalt yourself in the king’s presence,
and do not claim a place among his great men;
7 it is better for him to say to you, “Come up here,”
than for him to humiliate you before his nobles.

What you have seen with your eyes
8 do not bring[a] hastily to court,
for what will you do in the end
if your neighbor puts you to shame?

9 If you take your neighbor to court,
do not betray another’s confidence,
10 or the one who hears it may shame you
and the charge against you will stand.

11 Like apples[b] of gold in settings of silver
is a ruling rightly given.
12 Like an earring of gold or an ornament of fine gold
is the rebuke of a wise judge to a listening ear.

13 Like a snow-cooled drink at harvest time
is a trustworthy messenger to the one who sends him;
he refreshes the spirit of his master.
14 Like clouds and wind without rain
is one who boasts of gifts never given.

15 Through patience a ruler can be persuaded,
and a gentle tongue can break a bone.

16 If you find honey, eat just enough—
too much of it, and you will vomit.
17 Seldom set foot in your neighbor’s house—
too much of you, and they will hate you.

18 Like a club or a sword or a sharp arrow
is one who gives false testimony against a neighbor.
19 Like a broken tooth or a lame foot
is reliance on the unfaithful in a time of trouble.
20 Like one who takes away a garment on a cold day,
or like vinegar poured on a wound,
is one who sings songs to a heavy heart.

21 If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat;
if he is thirsty, give him water to drink.
22 In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head,
and the Lord will reward you.

23 Like a north wind that brings unexpected rain
is a sly tongue—which provokes a horrified look.

24 Better to live on a corner of the roof
than share a house with a quarrelsome wife.

25 Like cold water to a weary soul
is good news from a distant land.
26 Like a muddied spring or a polluted well
are the righteous who give way to the wicked.

27 It is not good to eat too much honey,
nor is it honorable to search out matters that are too deep.

28 Like a city whose walls are broken through
is a person who lacks self-control.

  1. Proverbs 25:8 Or nobles / on whom you had set your eyes. / 8 Do not go

Hi,
Glory is giving credit where credit is due.
LOVE,
...Mary., .... .

2 It is the glory of God to conceal a matter;
to search out a matter is the glory of kings.

Wow. Maybe that is why so few people know about God

3 As the heavens are high and the earth is deep,
so the hearts of kings are unsearchable.

Interesting

5 remove wicked officials from the king’s presence,
and his throne will be established through righteousness.

I imagine this is true in Corporations, businesses, and families.

11 Like apples[b] of gold in settings of silver
is a ruling rightly given.
12 Like an earring of gold or an ornament of fine gold
is the rebuke of a wise judge to a listening ear.

So, I should not complain, when I am ebarassingly corrected for and error? I say, yes. I should not.

15 Through patience a ruler can be persuaded,
and a gentle tongue can break a bone.

A gentle tongue can break a bone. Wow, and I wonder what that means.

17 Seldom set foot in your neighbor’s house—
too much of you, and they will hate you.

Interesting. I think I will try and remember this, for them and for myself.

21 If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat;
if he is thirsty, give him water to drink.
22 In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head,
and the Lord will reward you.

I like 21.

23 Like a north wind that brings unexpected rain
is a sly tongue—which provokes a horrified look.

I do not understand this.

24 Better to live on a corner of the roof
than share a house with a quarrelsome wife.
[/qutoe]

Yes, this makes sense.

Hmmm.
26 Like a muddied spring or a polluted well
are the righteous who give way to the wicked.

So, some people are not to ignore, Trolls, Narcissists, and The Wicked online.

LOVE,
...Mary., .... .

Pro 25:2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter. 8 Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof. 9 Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another. 11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver 15 By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.

verse 11: Timely advice is as lovely as gold apples in a silver basket. This kind of advice is indeed wonderful...

verse 28: A man without self control is as defenseless as a city with broken down walls. An out of control life is open to all sorts of enemy attack!

In reading Proverbs 25, verse 1 stood out for me:

"These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out."

It's rather astounding. And that is because, right here, we have witness to the fact that these words were diligently recorded by Hezekiah, the King of Judah's men.

What this brings to mind for me is the diligence that ALL of God's Word, the Bible, was recorded (copied out).

It also reminds me of this:

"So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it." ~Isaiah 55:11

It is miraculous that we are reading words that were recorded thousands of years ago. And it's a clear reminder that God CAN and WILL preserve His Word, and it will accomplish, even in us, thousands of years later, what He sent it out to do soooooo many centuries ago.

Hi,

I found it again.

Proverbs 25:2, the part about God.

I have wondered why God is so hard to find.

It is The Way He Is.

People ask why is God so hard to find.

It is the way He Is.

Is there not Goodness in that?

We are made. Should we not work?

God calls. For no one looks for God on his/her own. That is Biblical.

God gives Faith. For no one also, can Believe in God without that. That is Biblical also.

The agony in finding out more, the time, the worry, the fretting, the forgetting, all of these Proverbs 25:2 sentence one, I think come from that.

It is God Who is given the credit for concealing Himself. Because Glory means giving credit where credit is due with God, then that is to His Credit. As God is Good, then That Concealing is also Good.

I guess I don't have to understand it, wait, not understanding is because that too is concealed, thus I must search hard, and ask by praying, if God will let me know why, and if not trust in His Decision.

LOVE,

In reading Proverbs 25, this verse stood out for me.

It is extraordinarily wise in that soft words are more likely to generate from wise discretion and thus the one speaking them will obtain favor from God and be blessed.

Amen.
