  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

'Righteousness exalts a nation'. Sin drags it down. We can only be righteous in Christ. We pray that our countries will exalt Christ and live in obedience to the Word of God.

13 Laughter can conceal a heavy heart,
but when the laughter ends, the grief remains.

Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful, and a smile forced upon the face when the heart is in deep distress. It is a hard to put on the face of happiness, when the heart is heavy.

This proverbs 14 scripture reminds me of the words of Paul the apostle, when he mentioned "sorrowful yet rejoicing". Perhaps these scriptures are unrelated, i dont know, but its interesting to ponder.

Proverbs 14:13 Even in laughter the heart may sorrow,
And the end of mirth may be grief.
14 The backslider in heart will be filled with his own ways,
But a good man will be satisfied from above.[a]


2 Corinthians 6:10 as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

1 Corinthians 7:29 But this I say, brethren, the time is short, so that from now on even those who have wives should be as though they had none, 30 those who weep as though they did not weep, those who rejoice as though they did not rejoice, those who buy as though they did not possess, 31 and those who use this world as not misusing it. For the form of this world is passing away.

People who don't live for God see whatever they do to be right in their own eyes, even if it is sinful in nature. However, trying to live for God is the path that leads to life.

Reading this psalm reminds me to choose careful who our friends are. Being friends with non-believers will cast us down. Consider someone who is mocking sin for example. Someone who holds no convictions. Fools are not a friend we want to have while on the Lord's path! Proverbs 14:7-9
Best to pray for some people at a distance.
