I can't wait to see the chicks. I hope it all goes well for you. We have California quail, (wild) out here all over the place and I love this time of year when they have their chicks and they are tiny as cotton balls. Very cute. I imagine yours will be same size.
Yeah, they gonna be really small and I LOVE to hear them chirping and whistling, I'm defiantly gonna post pics and keep trying my hand at it until I get it right. It's awesome how gentle and friendly they are. :D

Yeah its true, every time I hear them whistle I wanna yell out SIR and go running home thinking my daddy is calling. My parents live beside me and he was hanging out his clothes just yesterday, and I said, daddy, every time I hear them birds whistle I think of you ( it made his day). Yep, we all knew that whistle was a round up call for sure.

I read that it takes anywhere from 17 - 24 days for hatching and I am hoping I got everything right. I love the sounds they make, you should give it a try!
I can whistle the bob white sound. It is nice to hear them call.

Its been so many years, I don't know if they were answering me or them selves.
when I was out on the lease, and scarred them , you could hear the WOOSH of powerful air
them birds are strong lil things with strong powerful wings. When separated they call
to one the other to they all come back as one covey again.

I cant gobble , but that has to be a sight to see. It just has to be.
It always entertains people when they come over especially since all of my animals except the quail run free, they are laid out everywhere and will walk right up to you.

You just brought up an old memory.
our neighbor phillp , one year he went over while we were gone
and had cut the top of the wiring
when we all got home so many had gotten out and were all over the alley.
we too had to catch them with nets.
I don't know quail get sick, but I also remember right during kindergarten
our chickens all fell ill. It was weird. This would have been in 77-78
I remember so clear the first ones went down quick , it turned their combs purple.
within less than two days most were down fast. To this day I don't know what it was
My guess is some kind of bird flu. But man it hit fast and hard and killed almost every one .

You got your own mini farm. All you need is a garden .

Lord willing , I may plant some grape vines later this year.
Your grown quail should pair up and also lay eggs. This would be a site to see.
The lil quail chasing after mama. Though I don't remember ours doing so.

Looking forward to seeing your pics of the baby quails........we don't have much space here to have any livestock, but I enjoy feeding the squirrels out back in the mornings after I've brought our two cats inside. What is Solomon's Porch all about, if I may ask?

And glad to hear I'm not the only one who talks to birds, whew! ;)
