Shalom all! It's been a joy reading this thread and the rest of the dance section, which I just discovered thanks to a tip from Margolit. ("waving madly to Margolit...")

I've been involved in davidic dance for almost 30 years, and even though not in a messianic congregation, use it regularly in choreographing my dance team. I love the aspect of davidic dance of being kinetic prayers.

Here is a simple version of Blessed Are You (Barechu) Paul Wilbur, Jerusalem Arise! that I use with congregational dance. It works best in a circle. This can be learned by going through it once, so it's great for introducting new groups to the circle dance.

Introduction: sway R-L

A section (verse): Mayim R 6 counts then end with a L-R-L-stop
Reverse

B section (chorus): Step in (R) while scooping arms up
Step back on L while bringing arms to sides (a rocking motion)
Repeat
Double Tzerkazia (on the words "le olam vaed")
(Repeat both parts above)

Instrumental Bridge: simple walk in R line of direction with hand hold. (you need a breather by the time you get to this part anyway!)

[variations: you can make this dance look different by using a circle IN a circle. The circles can go in opposite directions. Also, the inner circle can turn out for one of the repetitions of the chorus movements and the participants will face each other for that time, another lovely variation.

In a setting that only has long aisles, the dance can be done in a line, or two lines facing each other. In that variation with two lines, the lines could change places on the second "step in" of the rocking step in the chorus, if desired.]

Howdy :wave: Great ideas! It is fun to see the different things people do :)

We learned some interesting choreography to "Blessed be the Lord God" last year at a Tikkun Family Advance in PA. It's quite lively, and is considered to be an intermediate level dance.

BLESSED BE THE LORD GOD

Circle, holding hands

Pt. 1: "Blessed be the Lord God..."
1) R hop back, L hop forward, R Yemenite hop;
2) L hop back, R hop forward, L Yemenite hop;
3) Two twists (in place): R steps in front of L, L steps
in front of R
4) 2 L hopping mayims;
5) Repeat for "Blessed be His glorious name..."

Pt. 2: "Who alone does...."
1) 2 balance steps- RLRL;
2) 3 quick running steps CW (L) RLR, and jump on both feet;
3) Repeat 1 & 2;
4) 2 balance step- RLRL;
5) 2 steps CW, RL; then R tscherkessia
6) 2 hopping L mayims;
7) Also used for "The whole earth is filled..."

Pt. 3: "Let the whole earth be filled..." Not holding hands
1) Start with 1 R step back, L together" (on "Let")
2) 3 slow mayims (starting on "whole")--arms come up &
cross overhead as RF crosses in front, down when
RF crosses behind;
3) End with R step forward, L together (on "filled"),
rejoining hands.
4) Into part 2.

Repeat sequences as music dictates, end holding hands, arms raised.

This is the song done by Lamb correct? Looks interesting :)
Yes, it is. It's also one of those I will probably be able to teach, but most likely not able to dance, because of my knee. even though I don't hop (I just lift one foot in a hopping motion is more like it)....what a bummer!

But it is fun!

Maybe if you had the words, the rest will fall into place, that sometimes is a trigger for me.

Shout to the Lord

My Yeshua (Jesus), my Saviour
Lord there is none like you.
All of my days,
I want to praise
The wonders of your mighty love.

My comfort, my shelter,
Tower of refuge and strength.
Let every breath,
All the I am,
Never cease to worship you!

Chorus:
Shout to the Lord
All the earth let it sing,
Power and majesty
Praise to the King.
Mountains bow down
And the seas will roar
At the sound of your name.

I sing for joy
At the work of your hands.
Forever I'll love you
Forever I'll stand.
Nothigng compares
To the Promise I have in you.

Hope this helps & thanks for the choreography.

That's what I try to do.
And I don't let it stop me, either!^_^

But sometimes the rhythm and repetitiveness of the dance can make it hard. I mean, even when I do take the energy level down and modify the steps to accomodate the knee or back or whatever, sometimes it's hard to keep going.
But, one thing I know for certain, that I am able to dance with little or no pain or physical problems cropping up. Often it's just a matter of pacing myself, sitting one out from time to time, letting Him tell me the when and where and how. And sometimes that means just standing by my seat, or even sitting. I often find, at those times, that the song/songs played then have a special message or meaning.

But I will not give up dancing completely until HE tells me it's time, and I haven't heard that yet.

Oh, when you said "sorta like a joyful noise" did you mean the song "Make a Joyful Noise, All Ye Lands"...? or just as a figure of speech referring to worship in general?:confused:

And BTW, Bananna, you referred to "arnica" in an earlier post. I'm not familiar with that. What is it and what does it do?:scratch:

Arnica cream is good for topical use on bruises and sore muscles.

They also have tablets you can take. I Take the tablets to avoid soreness after working hard, because I'm a potato most days either, teaching, sewing or computing. I Get a couple hours of dance a week.
We are going to start meeting thursdays too. That will bring it up to four, plus I'll have to prep for the lessons so I might get my thee days a week exercize in now. I better stretch and do pilotes the the a couple days a week too.
