What do you think about writing poetry that criticizes the contradiction I've found in Christianity? If I were a Christian, should I stop writing those poetry at all? It is said expressing self through art is healthy and acceptable, but does it allow poetry that maybe dishonors the church and Christians?

a question you should ask yourself is does it attack or help jesus? if it is a church group you are finding fault with what are you going to do with your poetry? are you to use it to lampoon other believers, to make sport or mock them, or to hold them a mirror. personally i think if you are critisising a person you should give them the opertunity to absorb and then respond to your comments.

edit: if youve allways got honest motives then there will not be that many who call you a lair

Well, it really depends on what you mean. Is the stuff you are writing pointing out all the bad stuff and using it as an encouragement to do better?

An example of this would be the song "If we are the Body," by casting Crowns. It talks about how many people in churches are judgemental and snooty, thinking themselves better than others. The lyrics are....

It's crowded in worship today
As she slips in
Trying to fade into the faces
The girls' teasing laughter is carrying farther than they know
Farther than they know

CHORUS
But if we are the Body
Why aren't His arms reaching
Why aren't His hands healing
Why aren't His words teaching
And if we are the Body
Why aren't His feet going
Why is His love not showing them there is a way
There is a way

A traveler is far away from home
He sheds his coat
And quietly sinks into the back row
The weight of their judgmental glances tells him that his chances
Are better out on the road

Jesus paid much too high a price
For us to pick and choose who should come
And we are the Body of Christ

See, this song is not dishonoring Christians or the church, cause we all make mistakes. Every church is full of hypocrites because we are all sinners who screw up. This song is challenging Christians to make sure they dont fall into this trap of self-righteousness and a lack of empathy and compassion.

So again, it depends on what you mean. Care to share some of this poetry?
